As part of their preparation, they are learning how to critically evaluate modern educational theories through a biblical worldview. 8 GREAT COMMISSION EDUCATORS MARK WEINSTEIN Kevin Jones, Dean of the School of Education, and Lori (Brown) Ferguson ’98, Assistant Dean, both started their teaching careers in public schools, where they sought to make the Lord known. MICHELE (CUMMINGS) SOLOMON ’91 The first year at a new job is typically full of excitement, adjustments, and growth. But no one could have predicted the kind of first year that five recent graduates had adapting to the challenges brought on by a global health crisis. 16 HELPING HAND FOR HOMESCHOOLERS HEIDIE RAINE ’23 Cedarville has a faithful and rich tradition of supporting homeschooling parents with events and classes that strengthen and reinforce their educational investment in their kids. 20 FROM MATH TEACHER TO THE WHITE HOUSE JEFF GILBERT ’87 Cindy Hasselbring ’95 wanted to be an astronaut. She applied five times to NASA and was turned down every time. But those failures became career lessons as she made a giant leap from high school math teacher to STEM education policy advisor to the White House. 24 EDUCATION: MAKING THE GRADE With its roots tracing all the way back to 1908, the Cedarville School of Education has a history almost as long as the University itself. With more than 5,000 graduates already, the School of Education looks forward to preparing the next generation of compassionate, professional educators who will make a difference in students’ lives for the Gospel.
