As colleges cannot be expected to investigate and try cases of homicide on campus, so they should not be expected to adjudicate cases of sexual assault. Instead, colleges should encourage victims to participate in a criminal investigation regarding their claims and provide them with lawyers to help them report the crime. Theses actions would better ensure fair treatment for all involved. Trained investigators, people with criminal law experience, and the courts should be the sole venue for handling cases of sexual misconduct on university campuses.
