The volume fraction of dynamic recrystallization was high in regions where the deformation was larger. Most of the upper mantle was highly recrystallized since the recrystallization kinetics was more sensitive to temperature than pressure. By contrast, only little of the lower mantle was recrystallized because the recrystallization was suppressed by high pressure.
