Tomkins earned a B.S. in Agriculture Education from Washington State University (1985), a M.S. in plant science from the University of Idaho (1990), and a Ph.D. in genetics from Clemson University (1996). After completing post-doctoral research in genomics, he became a faculty member in the Department of Genetics and Biochemistry at Clemson and the director of the Clemson University Genomics Institute. In 2009, he joined the Institute for Creation Research as a research scientist and was appointed Director of Research in 2020. (summa cum laude) from Western Michigan University, and a M.S. from University of Wyoming all in geology. He worked for nearly a decade as an exploration geologist for Chevron and 17 years as a full0time public college professor. His publications include numerous articles on the geology of the Rocky Mountain region. He has written and/or co-authored five books, including Guide to Dinosaurs (ICR), Dinosaurs: Marvels of God’s Design (Master Books) and Carved in Stone: Geological Evidence of the Worldwide Flood (ICR) in 2020.
