K onya to Minister in Eastern Europe Alex Konya'74 A s God has expanded the ministry ofWord ofLife(WOL)into Eastern Europe,He has called Alex Konya '74to become Bible professor-at- large for WOL-Europe. While WOL has had a ministry and camps in West Germany for 25 years, new opportunities for ministry have opened in Poland and, most recently,in Hungary. Alex has been called to help encourage and teach the older pastors who have served faithfully through the years of Communist domination and to help develop a new generation of pastoral leadership. He will teach doctrine courses and seminars where there is no WOLinstitute and in the Bible institutes as they are established. One institute will be located in Tdalma, near Budapest. The Hungarian government has made available to Word ofLife a castle on 77 acres ofland for Christian ministry. At the dedication alone, there were over a score ofdecisions for Christ. The camp is already in operation and hundreds of young people are being saved. God was preparing for this ministry when Alex's great grand- father emigrated from Hungary to the United States in the early 1900's. When Alex was saved as a senior in high school,he became a fourth- generation believer in his family. As he considered God's will for his life, his grandfather suggested that he consider Cedarville College. Alex was graduated with honors from Cedarville with a preseminary Bible major and went on to earn the M.Div.(1976)and the Th.M.(1984) degreesfrom Grace Theological Seminary. In 1984 he studied at the Institute ofHoly Land Studies in Jerusalem. Alex pastored the Mayflower Baptist Church in South Bend, 4Fall'90 Indiana, for the past 14 years. With plans to be in Europe with Word ofLife by the summer of 1991,he will be raising support during the coming year. He has written several articles for the Baptist Bulletin,as well as Sunday school quarterly material and take-home papersfor Regular Baptist Press. His book,Demons:A Biblically Based Perspective, came about through the encouragement ofthe seminary faculty who thought that Alex should document his Th.M.research material for the benefit ofother Christians. His exhaustive exegesis ofScripture deals with the topic from a purely biblical view rather than from experiences or case studies. In the book he also explains the believer's warfare with Satan and gives practical ways to defend oneself. The book was released by Regular Baptist Press in June 1990 and should be available through local Christian book stores. Alex and his wife Pam (Stallard '75N)have three children: Anne 16, Alex III 13,and Phillip 11. R andy Clark: Recruiting Students for Cedarville College 10%664 . Randy Clark'74 I n recent issues ofthe Torch and Aviso, Cedarville College has featured Cindy Wiebert as the freshman phenomenon from Bakersfield,California, who pitched two no-hitters in two days and claimed NAIA National Pitcher ofthe Week for two consecutive weeks. What you may not have known about Cindy is that she first heard of Cedarville College from a 1974 graduate ofthe College,Randy Clark. After transferring to Cedarville from Bob Jones University,Randy was occupied with studies and working several part-timejobs. Although he was not on a sports team,he did participate in several intramural sports. Graduating with a B.A.in business administration, Randy went on to study for an M.S.in accounting at Kent State University. He then passed the C.P.A.exams and took a job teaching accounting at Los Angeles Bible College, now known as Master's. Randy is currently employed with William Bolthouse Farms as their vice- president for marketing. He and his wife, Kathy, have become heavily involved in coaching local softball teams throughout the spring and summer in Bakersfield. It is through this involvement that the Clark family became friendswith CindyWiebert, Denise DeWalt, and Deane Lancaster. These girls excelled in high school sports competitions and were offered sports scholarships to other universities. But when they wanted to find a Chris- tian college and Randy introduced them to Cedarville, they were hooked! The Clarks provided in- formation about Cedarville and even flew with them to visit the campus. The Clarks recently traveled with Athletes in Action to Venezuela, providing coaching for a softball team to compete with native teams and lead- ership in evangelism. As they continue their involvement in coaching,Randy is certain there will be similar opportunities to share his educational experience at Cedarville College with other young people. He states that the balance ofedu- cation, spiritual aspects, and social life is the key to Cedarville's success, and he encourages potential students to experience higher education at Cedarville. Cedarville's Admissions Office can use alumni in the recruitment process.
