MIS Update Angela Hartman, Cedarville nursing student, with a young friend in the Coast. II eing a part ofthe summer MIS medical missions team to the Ivory Coast not only provided us with many once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to aid in the performance of various medical procedures, but it also provided us with the opportunity to love and share God's love with another land and people of His creation," said Angela Hartman, ajunior nursing major from Ft. Wayne,Indiana. "While in Africa, the Lord really laid upon my mind the fact that wealth,in God's view,is not attained through the material possessions one accumulates on this earth, but by the love one has for Him in the heart and freely shares with others." Angela was a member of Cedarville's first medical MIS team which served for five weeks in the Ivory Coast. The eight nursing students practiced general medicine in a Baptist hospital and in outlying clinics. They worked alongside national medical personnel, and each patient received the Gospel message along with treatment. Since family members accompanied patients to the hospital to cook and help care for them, the team was able to minister to them as well.In the evenings, the Cedarville students sang and gave their testimonies in local churches. While they spoke to patients and congregations through translators, they distributed tracts printed in the French language and demonstrated professional skill, compassion, and the love ofthe Savior—characteristics for which Cedarville nurses are noted. "The Lord brought to my attention, through the words ofJim Elliot, that'One does not surrender a life in an instant. That which is lifelong can only be surrendered in a lifetime," Angela concluded."And each day,as we surrender to Him,He will, as promised in Psalm 139:9-10,guide us and hold us fast—no matter what the geography." Eleven other MIS teams served around the world this summer. Two which returned in July were the England and Philippine teams. The England MIS team's music and puppet ministry was a time ofencouragement for missionaries and local churches. During their four weeks, the team sang in schools and shopping centers and issued invitations for evening concerts in seven churches. The churches saw their congregations double in size during this time, providing many opportunities for follow-up. Eleanor Taylor'62, former alumni council representative, accompanied the group to England. The Athletes for Christ basketball team to the Philippines reports 150 people saved through their outreach in June and July. Gary'83H and Becky Selden Kuhn'78 traveled with the team. Missionary Kent Craig'80 handled the arrangements for the team's visit. The other teams and individuals returned throughout the month of August. 11 turn Events August 27 September 19 September 22 September 25-26 October 1 October 16-17 December 11-13 January 30 February 5-7 Heritage Alumni to Ameriflora West Coast Picnic Heritage Alumni to Reds Game Alumni Council Meetings South Bend Area Alumni Gathering Homecoming 1992 Music Alumni Reunion/Oratorio: Messiah Alumni Basketball Weekend Alumni Ski Weekend Columbus,Ohio Los Angeles,California Cincinnati,Ohio Milner B.A.Building Marriott Hotel Check pages 4-5 for details!
