Inspire, Fall 2003
Inspire 27 2003 Bickett Heritage Alumni Scholarships Awarded The John W. Bickett Heritage Scholarship was established in 1982 by the Heritage Alumni. These awards are named for the Reverend John Wilson Bickett 1897, the first member of the first graduating class to receive his diploma from Cedarville. The recipients are junior or senior students preparing for pastoral or missionary service and planning to further their education in seminary or language studies. The following are the students’ biographies and notes of appreciation, which were written in April 2003. Angela J. Burrows Angela has a busy future planned. The junior comprehensive Bible major would like to finish a nursing degree, complete correspondence seminary classes, and eventually serve overseas. Having grown up in Georgetown, Guyana, as the daughter of missionaries, she knows firsthand what it is like to serve overseas. Angela is active in Mu Kappa, the children of missionaries organization at Cedarville. Psalm 105:1 says to thank the Lord for what He has done and make it known among the people. I thank the alumni for this scholarship and for their care for the students of Cedarville. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to turn my eyes again to God’s provision. Our God truly is great! William H. Lawler William would like to go into full-time music ministry, specifically as a worship pastor, however, he plans to complete seminary studies first. Currently, the Indianapolis native is gaining invaluable experience as worship pastor for Northside Baptist Church in Lebanon, Ohio, and he also takes part in the Cedarville Men’s Glee Club. William is a junior preseminary Bible major. I’d like to express my appreciation to the Cedarville alumni who have made the funding for this scholarship available to students such as myself. It is very meaningful to have the encouragement and support of those who have come before me. It is also a great blessing to see God provide monetary resources in His timing. Philip M. Miller Philip, a junior preseminary Bible major, is currently serving as a Discipleship Council member and a resident assistant. The Chesterland, Ohio native has co-hosted Junior Jam, participated in Open Heirs evangelism, served on the Advisory Seven, and worked on the sophomore chapel/prayer council. Philip looks forward to attending seminary in order to prepare for the pastorate. Thank you to all of those men and women who have made this gift possible. I have been greatly encouraged to see how faithful God is in meeting needs through His servants. Thank you for your dedication to education and students. I thank my God for you and for your gift of love. Stanton M. Mistak A junior preseminary Bible major, Stan was the class chaplain and has been active in Open Heirs evangelism ministry for all of his years at Cedarville. He served as a resident assistant during his sophomore year. A Fayetteville, North Carolina native, Stan plans to attend seminary after graduation. I am very grateful for the generosity of the alumni in awarding me with this scholarship. Thanks for allowing the Lord to use you as an encouragement in my life as He seeks to work out His purposes in me. God bless you! The 2003 John W. Bickett Heritage Alumni Scholarship recipients are Stanton M. Mistak, Philip M. Miller, William H. Lawler, and Angela J. Burrows.
