Following are some of those letters. Wow! I don’t think I was quite ready to read the latest Inspire issue. My heart ached and rejoiced with each story shared. You will never know what you have done for those of us with special needs children. The opportunities to share our “stories” are not plentiful. People are afraid to ask questions, and too often their “pity” makes it difficult to be open and honest. Thank you for giving us the chance to share and hopefully open doors in the Christian community. ~ Claudia Whitestine Porpiglia ’79 I am writing to you regarding your Cedarville alumni magazine. I work at the Hope House in Union City, Georgia, where we provide free respite care for medically fragile/handicapped children. I also have a special needs daughter who is the light of my life. Thank you for sending extra copies of your magazine so that I can share the beautiful stories with co-workers, friends, and family. ~ Tina Hardy I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated the Inspire this month. Not only working with children with special needs but experiencing it personally, I realize how important it is to share our stories with others. It was so neat to read the articles, and I was amazed at how open everyone was. I have shared it with my sister and mom who have both experienced raising special needs children, and they said that it was so comforting for them to hear what other parents were thinking and feeling. It made them feel not so alone in their thoughts! I have also shared it with several of my co-workers and it has been a great insight into what parents of special needs children go through as well as a wonderful witnessing tool. This truly was an encouraging edition, and I hope the aftermath is just as encouraging. There is such a need for parents of special needs children to not feel alone. I think especially as Christians our faith can be challenged and put to the test like never before. It was truly comforting to hear that others were experiencing the same challenges and questions, and also to hear the lessons that they learned and the Bible verses they clung to! It is also a neat tool for parents who don’t have special needs children to better understand what those parents may be feeling and all the challenges that they are going through on a daily basis. My hope and prayer is that this edition encourages everyone who picks it up! ~ Kori Hopeman Davis ’99
