Traditional undergraduate enrollment grew by 71 due to continuing strong retention and the second-largest freshman class in the University’s history. “We have much to be thankful for,” said Janice (Warren) Supplee ’86, vice president for enrollment management and marketing. “With the difficult economy, we know families are weighing college costs and available options very carefully. This type of enrollment growth continues to affirm the high value families place on a Cedarville education.” This year’s total enrollment includes 90 high school students enrolled in online college courses, 20 health care professionals in the first cohort of the Master of Science in Nursing program, more than 230 students from diverse ethnic backgrounds, and nearly 160 pharmacy students. This snapshot of the student body underscores the University’s strategic goals to increase online offerings, add graduate programs, and serve an increasingly diverse student body. “For years, Cedarville was synonymous with a residential campus experience,” said Supplee. “But, every news outlet includes stories about the changing face of higher education. It’s exciting to be a part of how Cedarville will deliver its unique Christ-centered education in new ways to new audiences.” Once again, Cedarville’s strengths — including strong graduate and retention rates and top full-time faculty percentage — were affirmed by U.S.News & World Report . Traditionally in the top five, the University was ranked third among Midwest regional colleges this year. “This type of enrollment growth continues to affirm the high value families place on a Cedarville education.” Karl Rove Encourages Involvement Karl Rove, former deputy chief of staff for President George W. Bush, visited Cedarville on September 20. He was invited by the Center for Political Studies in honor of Constitution Day, and he spoke on “2012: Choosing Our Future.” Focusing on the upcoming election, Rove said that the “2010 and 2012 elections may be the most consequential in our history.” He outlined the economy and health care as the two major issues for the 2012 election. Discussing his firsthand experience with President Bush on September 11, his days at the White House working as senior advisor, and his opinion on the upcoming elections, Rove gave the audience a brief overview of his political career and what it is like to work in Washington. Rove encouraged students to get involved in politics, and his advice was to “decide what your passion is and go do it.” Dr. Mark Caleb Smith, director of Cedarville’s Center for Political Studies, opened the evening by saying that one of Cedarville’s goals is to educate young men and women and equip them for the future. “Part of that education is to bring people to our campus who are able to share their expertise or their unique experiences with our students and community,” Smith said. cedarville.edu/cps
