Alberta was a pivotal figure at Cedarville, having served as director of library services at Centennial Library from 1960-1975. After her graduation from Cedarville, Alberta became head librarian of Centennial Library and earned a master of arts degree in library science from Indiana University. She guided the library for 15 years as its collection quadrupled and technology became an ever-increasing focus. Alberta was truly a faithful visionary and servant to Cedarville and Centennial Library. When a new library building was constructed in 1967, Alberta personally coordinated the huge task of moving the library collection into the new facility. She helped implement and develop the Ohio College Library Center and served on its committee for interlibrary loans. Because of her vision for what technology would mean to Cedarville, she initiated the library’s media department. In 1984, Alberta received The Emily Russel Award from the Association of Christian Librarians in recognition of her outstanding contributions to Christian librarianship. She had served the association as executive vice president in 1972 and president in 1973-74. Alberta’s strong faith, vision, and service continued in her retirement years, as she helped develop libraries for Bible colleges and missions and assisted an adult tutorial reading program. Our condolences go to Alberta’s husband, Stuart ’60 , who is a postal clerk at Cedarville University; her daughter, Dianne Chaffe Gottwals ’69 , a graphic assistant at Centennial Library; and the rest of their family.
