Inspire, Spring 2001
Li’l Sibs Come to the ‘Ville L i’l Sibs Weekend, held February 2-3, joined more than 500 children from across the country to their Cedarville siblings on campus. The sibs experienced residence hall life and dining hall food and could choose from activities such as a jazz band concert, the theatre production Lost in Yonkers , Yellow Jacket basketball, open gym, or bowling. Two special highlights of the weekend were the “Jamaica-Me-Crazy” Party and the premiere showing of a computer-animated children’s video, Tails from the Ark. Tails from the Ark is a creation of EBI Video, a company led by Jeff Lyle ’85 (president) and Mike Davis ’90 (director of marketing). Alistair Begg Returns to Campus for Charter Day C edarville University’s annual Charter Day (January 24) was ushered in by a favorite campus guest speaker—Alistair Begg, senior pastor of Parkside Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Pastor Begg pointed out that Charter Day is important because Cedarville needs to be reminded of its past. Like the Israelites who set up memorials of stone to keep the Lord’s work before the eyes of the next generation, Christians need “moments that matter.” Pastor Begg emphasized that the three reminders of our Christian journey are our worldview, our view of the Bible, and our view of ourselves. Pastor Begg, recognizable by his Scottish accent and profound Bible teaching, pastored in Scotland before arriving at Chagrin Falls in 1983. His ministry at the non- denominational Parkside Church is complemented by his national radio program, “Truth for Life,” which airs on the CDR Radio Network weekdays at 12:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 3:05 a.m. Lost in Yonkers C edarville students performed the Neil Simon drama Lost in Yonkers February 1-3 and 8-10. Winner of four Tony Awards and a 1991 Pulitzer Prize, Lost in Yonkers is the highly- acclaimed story of the difficulties experienced by two boys living with their unfeeling grandmother while their father works as a traveling salesman to pay off his late wife’s medical bills. In this poignant yet humorous drama, Simon illustrates what happens to children living in the absence of love.
