24 Spring 2002 Tom ’88 and Meg Irving Fite ’89 announce the birth of Stephen Michael on August 24, 2001. He was welcomed home in Aurora, Ohio by his siblings, Atalie, Seth, and Olivia. The Fites have been called by God to share the love of Jesus through the sport of soccer with On Goal Ministries. The purpose of On Goal Ministries is to use soccer to lead children and families toward the greatest goal in life: knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Cindy Guido Gomez ’88 teaches at the largest public high school in Miami, Florida. She is also the coordinator of the program for English speakers of other languages, which includes 600 students. Cindy is taking classes for her master of science degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages. Living in a big city and teaching at a public school is not where Cindy thought she would be when she left Cedarville, but she loves what she is doing and is grateful for the opportunity to serve God there. Lisa Hurst Robinson ’88 and her husband, William, announce the birth of Emma Rose on November 15, 2001. Big brothers Joshua and Nathan welcomed her home in Dublin, Ohio. Kristi Culp Talbot ’88 and her husband, Dan, announce the birth of Hunter James on January 1, 2001. Hunter was the New Year’s baby for Champaign County in Ohio. Kristi is a first grade teacher at Triad Local Schools in North Lewisburg, Ohio. 90s Cheryl Warren Brugel ’90 and her husband, Steve, announce the adoption of Matthew Steven on August 16, 2001. Matthew’s name was chosen because it means “gift from God.” After teaching high school in Hudsonville, Michigan for 11 years, Cheryl now enjoys staying home with Matthew. Joel ’90 and Dana Daniels Campbell ’92 announce the birth of Emily Grace on October 4, 2001. Emily joined her brother, Aaron, in London, England. Joel works for the St. Paul Companies and recently completed a three-year assignment as international treasury manager in England. The Campbells now reside in St. Paul, Minnesota. Toni Isaacson Christiansen ’90 and her husband, Glenn, announce the birth of Matthew James on March 26, 2001. He was welcomed home in Grand Rapids, Ohio by his sister, Sarah (5). Toni is involved in the local moms groups and Bible studies, and the family enjoys being involved at church. and is applying to and interviewing with hospitals in the Northeast and Midwest for a residency position. John is so thankful for the many people who have been praying for him and his wife, Anne. Gary Brewer ’84 and his wife, Kathy, work with Bibles International. Gary has traveled many miles and experienced the joy of the Lamkaang people of India as they received their first Scriptures after more than 12 years of work. The Brewers reside in Jenison, Michigan. Randall Cook ’85 was one of four recipients of the 2001 Milken National Educator Award in Michigan. This award was created to provide public and financial recognition to teachers, principals, and other education professionals who advance the notion of educational excellence. Randall teaches at Tri County Area High School in Howard City, Michigan. Colin ’85 and Dianne Noggle Lord ’88 announce the birth of Isaac David on May 15, 2001. He joins his siblings, Maria (9), Colin (7), Jonathan (5), Natasha (4), and Benjamin (2), in Churdan, Iowa. In June, the family plans to move to Papua New Guinea to be missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Colin will teach band at the Ukarumpa International School. Ed ’85 and Janice Warren Supplee ’86 announce the adoption of Benjamin David on December 12, 2001. Benjamin joins two cocker spaniel pets, one of which is Tassel, a puppy given to them by the class of 2001. They reside in Cedarville, Ohio. Cliff Johnson ’87H was one of four veterans featured in “Heroes of Yesteryear … shining examples for today!” articles published in the Xenia Daily Gazette in November 2001. He and his wife, Pam, work at Cedarville University. Teresa Palmer ’87 and Bradley Jones were married in February 2001. Teresa is the regional medical director for a hospitalist company. They reside in Mesa, Arizona. Alumna Meets with Chinese Premier and Dignitaries Jewel Schroder Nordstrom ’86 is no stranger to China. Perhaps this is why the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) of China chose her to join Dr. Pat Robertson in historic meetings with key Chinese leaders recently. Jewel, who is the regional director for CBN China, and Dr. Robertson met with Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji (all three shown above) to enhance U.S.-China relations and explore the role that CBN can play in strengthening ties between the two countries. Jewel and Dr. Robertson also met with Yan Mingfu, chairman of the China Charity Federation, to produce an historic agreement for a joint foundation between the Federation and CBN China. The agreement allows CBN China to raise humanitarian aid funds from foreign enterprises and individuals in China. This will assist CBN China in their work to give medical treatment to the poor, dispense medicines, facilitate surgeries for orphans both domestically and abroad, improve orphanage living conditions, install wells and cisterns in drought-ridden areas, care for the elderly, and help in disaster relief situations. Jewel and Dr. Robertson also met with other Chinese leaders, including Ye Xiaowen, director of the China Religious Affairs Bureau; Deng Pufang, chairman of the China Handicapped Foundation; Li Zhaoxing, vice minister of foreign affairs; and Wang Debing, chancellor of Peking University. Jewel’s first trip to China was in 1985 with the Cedarville women’s basketball team, and in 1988 she returned to China to teach with the Cedarville teaching exchange program at the People’s University in Beijing. Since then, she has taught Ph.D. students at Beijing University, the “Harvard of China.” In fact, Jewel was the first foreigner to receive the “Most Excellent Teacher” award at Beijing University. Jewel has also negotiated the arrival of sports teams to compete against China’s national and university teams in a variety of sports. In 1996 she served as a liaison for the Chinese Olympic Softball team in the Atlanta Olympics. Jewel and her husband, Dwight, live in Beijing.
