Inspire 29 Clif ’72 and Hannah Stowell Jensen ’71 are excited about what God is doing with Doe River Gorge Ministries in Elizabethton, Tennessee. They have been blessed with new and renovated office units and are in the process of building two housing units. These units will allow 50 more campers to attend the summer programs each week. Stuart Walker ’72 is the assistant director at the Muncie/Ball State branch of the Indiana University School of Medicine. Jim ’75 and Rachel Mayo Chambers ’78 are pleased that the ARC (A Refuge of Compassion) ministry is flourishing in Zambia. There has been a shift from “missionary dependency” to local church involvement because of this ministry. This ministry involves addressing needs in a biblical way, assisting with resources, and providing training seminars on biblical compassion. Jack Caulfield ’77 continues to battle cancer and is thankful that he was able to start physical therapy. Continue to pray for his stamina to improve and that his voice problems will be resolved. David Lyons ’78 recently became the director of international operations for The Navigators in Colorado. He and his wife, Renee Globig Lyons ’79 , have seven children: Danielle (20), Wesley (18), Nicole (16), Calvin (14), Hudson (11), Ian (8), and Graham (4). Alan Terwilleger ’78 was recently elected to serve as chairman of the board of the American Leprosy Mission in Greenville, South Carolina. Alan also serves on The Leprosy Mission International board in London, United Kingdom. His full-time employment is with Prison Fellowship in Reston, Virginia, where he serves as senior vice president of ministry relations. Janice Richards Viinalass ’78 and her husband, Linden, have been missionaries in the country of Estonia (located south of Finland) for seven years. Their family is serving at the Salem Baptist Church, where they are involved in family life ministry, men’s and women’s Bible studies, and a future family farm camp ministry. Because 60 percent of pregnancies in Estonia end in abortion, Janice and Linden see a new field of evangelism through counseling. Mark ’79 and Debbie Hall Seymour ’83 had an unexpected return to the States in October 2003 due to Debbie’s health. After many procedures, the doctors released her to go back to Chad, Africa in January 2004. The Seymours praise God for the doctors and the special times they were able to have with their family. They are also pleased to report that the classroom complex is under construction at the Chad Balimba Bible Institute. Joseph Stowell II ’79H received the 2003 Simeon Award at the Indiana Fellowship of Regular Baptist Churches annual conference. This award is given annually to a man who has faithfully and honorably served in vocational ministry. Warren Throckmorton ’79 produced a compact disc packed with valuable information for teens and college students on sexuality and sexual identity. The Truth Comes Out provides answers to difficult questions in a compassionate, inspirational, and educational format. 80s Michael Allen ’80 has been named vice president of finance and facilities at Lutheran Social Services of Mid- America (LSSMA). Mike was previously responsible for management of the organization’s $85 million in financial assets. With his added duties, Mike now oversees LSSMA’s current physical assets and is also responsible for the planning, acquisition, and development of future property, physical plant, and equipment. David ’82 and Cindy Ulmer Cox ’83 recently returned to Brazil after enjoying a furlough in the States. They are thankful for the “once-in-a- lifetime” family trip they took last summer. They praise God that the student body continues to grow at Word of Life Seminary in Brazil. This growth brings the need for more housing, and they are thankful for the new dorm that is close to completion. Ron Hobar ’82 and his wife, Linda, are excited about the endless ministry possibilities they have with Fellowship of Christian Athletes/Impact Sports youth baseball in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bruce ’82 and Debbie Mowrey Maddux ’87 are planning a survey trip to Peru this year. During the Baptist Mid-Missions candidate seminar in the fall, they felt as if God were pointing them in this direction for missions work. Letty Walker Willis ’82 is the guidance counselor at Gallia Academy High School in Gallipolis, Ohio. She has been employed by the Gallipolis City Schools District for 19 years, 18 of those as the senior English teacher. Letty and her husband, Matt, have two daughters, Brianne (17) and Brooke (12). Teresa Heeney Estes ’83 teaches music at Centennial Elementary School. Her husband, Don, began a new venture this year by teaching at the community college level. Don and Teresa have two children, Annemarie and Jon-Michel, and reside in Greeley, Colorado. Dean Johnson ’83 received his doctor of ministry degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He is the pastor at Lake Pointe Bible Church in Plymouth, Michigan. Steve Standridge ’83 and his family serve as missionaries in Italy. Their ministry involves camps for all ages, family Bible conferences, and youth training. Steve and his wife, Stephanie, have two children, Simeon (5) and Elisa (3). Debbie Dower ’84 took a one-year study leave last school year to return to graduate school. Her studies allowed her to become certified by New Jersey as a Alumnotes 30s James Jackson ’39 would like to thank his classmates for their prayers and support after the homegoing of his wife, Elizabeth. 50s Raymond Entingh ’54 would like to thank his classmates for their prayers concerning the homegoing of his wife, Nancy. Sam ’56 and Ellen Smith Hornbrook ’56 send greetings from Mexico, where God continues to give them many opportunities to serve, preach, and teach God’s Word. Sam is the head pastor of Emmanuel Baptist and the interim pastor at another church. They are thankful for the men who have stepped forward to help Sam preach at both of these places. Ellen enjoys assisting with the children’s choir at Emmanuel. 60s Marv ’65 and Joan Carter Stephens ’65 were very encouraged by their October 2003 deputation trip. They were overwhelmed by the generosity and hospitality of those they met. They are thankful for the work they are doing with the Spanish literature ministry of Baptist Mid- Missions. Joyce Rudduck ’66 arrived back in Bangladesh in November 2003 after enjoying a six-month furlough. She praises God that she is fully supported and that she was able to get her new visa. Joyce and three other ladies were able to celebrate the holidays together in Bangladesh. Charles Truxton ’67 and his wife, Bev, held a doctor’s reunion in October 2003 at Evangel Hospital in Nigeria. When Bev started at the hospital in 1973, she was one of just two missionary doctors at the hospital. A training program was started, and through this program, more than 100 Nigerian doctors have worked at the hospital or have been trained. It is very rewarding for the missionary doctors to see how these Nigerian doctors are scattered around the nation and in other countries. Dan Lacey ’68 and his wife, Betty, are thankful for the many opportunities they have had to share the blessings of God to others in France. Dan continues to teach at the Bible Institute in Algrange, and Betty was able to lead a ladies retreat in the fall. The Laceys were very excited to be able to see all their family this past summer when they were in the States. Elaine Schulte ’68 is a projects researcher for Baptist Mid-Missions translation, publishing, and literacy services. 70s Jane Austin Kilko ’70 and her husband, Robert, celebrated the first anniversary of the Life and Peace Baptist Church in Brazil. They are thankful for this church and are excited about its growth. During the Jewish holidays, the Kilkos seek wisdom for their conversations about religious themes with their Jewish friends. Larry ’72 and Nancy Leapline Allen ’70 are involved in many different works in Bangladesh. They have been encouraged with the results of a training program that was started last fall to assist the leaders of their association.
