It might be a more effective scene for witnessing than you think. Craig Magrum ’98 believes that paintball affords Christians a real opportunity for evangelism. Craig is the secretary for the Ohio chapter of the international Christian Paintball Players Association (CPPA). He is also the co-founder of Team Fireproof — the official Ohio CPPA Tournament ministry team. Craig describes CPPA in his own words: “CPPA members make every effort to be witnesses for Jesus Christ on and off the paintball field. In a sport where many players cheat (by wiping paint or other ways), use vulgar language at times, use products that promote the devil or other dark religions, we try our best to be a light in an otherwise ‘dark’ area.” He explained that Christian paintball teams take time to pray before games and offer to pray with and for the other teams. “Players have commented how members of the CPPA have ministered to them,” Craig added. “Already in Ohio, we’ve seen at least one person come to Christ after he witnessed our behavior on and off the field at a team practice.” “Our sole desire, goal, and prayer is to see people come to salvation through Jesus the Messiah,” Craig continued. “We’re not ashamed of this. When someone hears ‘Team Fireproof’ or the ‘Ohio CPPA,’ they’ll know immediately what we’re about.” Craig credits Cedarville for contributing to his current paintball ministry in two different ways. He first fell for paintball during his days at the ’Ville, when he played in a match between the residents of McChesney and Brock. Second, he says that Cedarville provided him with the biblical foundation necessary to effectively minister to paintball players on the field. Believe it or not, Craig is not always playing paintball. He works full-time at YES-FM (a contemporary Christian music station in Toledo, Ohio) as the programming assistant, morning show producer, and mid-day DJ. He resides in Bowling Green, Ohio, with his wife, Gayle. To contact Craig, e-mail him at cgmagrum@wcnet.org.
