Athletic Hall of Fame Honors Alums Four alumni athletes were inducted into the Cedarville University Athletic Hall of Fame on January 16. Jeff Bowser ’82, men’s soccer player from 1978 to 1981, is Cedarville’s third all-time leading scorer with 130 total points and is tied for second for the most goals scored in a career with 57. He was named an NAIA and NCCAA All-American in 1981 after leading the Jackets to a runner- up finish at the NCCAA Nationals. Jill Zenner Cobb ’97 completed her Yellow Jacket career as the 1997 NAIA National Champion in the 3K racewalk. A women’s cross country and track athlete from 1993 to 1997, Jill was an NCCAA All-American in cross country and was an NAIA and NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete in both track and cross country. Jill went on to represent the United States in many international racewalk events. Joy Beitler Kramer ’97, women’s track and field athlete from 1994 to 1997, was a six-time NAIA All-American and 11-time NCCAA champion while specializing in the hurdles and high jump. She was a four-year conference champion, an NAIA and NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete, and a member of four NCCAA championship teams. Helder “El” Seabra ’95, men’s basketball player from 1991 to 1995, is arguably the finest defensive player the Yellow Jackets have ever had. He also ranks 11th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,724 points. He was an NCCAA All-American, a two-time All-Mid-Ohio Conference First Team performer, and was twice named Team MVP. In addition, the men’s varsity basketball teams from 1979 to 1980 through 1982 to 1983 were given special recognition Honor to Whom Honor is Due 8 Spring 2004 A Little Bit of Classical Guitar On a night of record-breaking sub-zero temperatures, more than 850 faithful devotees came to Cedarville University to hear classical guitarist virtuoso Christopher Parkening in concert. Christopher delighted the audience with songs ranging from Polish court dances to Spanish compositions and Christ-celebrating works. Christopher also gave his testimony of faith in Jesus Christ. A renowned guitarist for more than 25 years, Christopher has been compared to the legendary Spanish guitarist Andrés Segovia and has been a frequent guest soloist with the finest orchestras in the United States. He has played at the White House, appeared with Placido Domingo, and performed twice on the Grammy® Awards (he has twice been nominated for a Grammy®). Christopher founded the classical guitar Hundreds of High Schoolers Learn to Lead Four hundred energetic high school students. That’s who came to campus January 23-24 for the annual High School Leadership Conference. The conference, titled “Making Sense of Your World,” showed students how to engage their culture and make a difference. Dr. Bill Brown, president of Cedarville University, served as keynote speaker. His humorous, yet thought- provoking presentations included “Engaging Your World: The New Weird Order,” “Making Sense of Your World: Thinking Worldviewishly,” and “Harry Potter, Eminem, and Beyoncé: Engaging Your Culture with the Heart and Mind of Christ.” Students attended break-out sessions for learning practical leadership skills and enjoyed music by The Upper Room, a popular campus band.
