Inspire, Spring 2006
Inspire Cruising to Victory Swaying palm trees, crystal water, and smooth sand … if you’re a regular reader of Inspire you’re sure to have seen the beautiful Friends for Life cruise ads that ran in 2005. You’re not the only one who noticed them! The Dayton (Ohio) Advertising Club has awarded Kerry Estes ’04, the designer of the ads, a bronze ADDY (pronounced “addie”) for his Friends for Life cruise brochure. They also honored him with a bronze ADDY for his 2005 Cedarville University Annual Report. These awards for “excellence in advertising” were presented to Kerry at the 2006 Hermes/ADDY Awards Competition in Dayton. Kerry has been pumping out outstanding publications at Cedarville University since 1997. He is currently a senior graphic designer and adjunct instructor of graphic design. “Adopting” Community Service Sarah Bayne ’06 likes to say she has “adopted” a ministry of working with foster children. And now the Montgomery County (Ohio) Mentoring Collaborative has “adopted” Sarah as one of their 2006 Outstanding One-to- One Mentors. She is the first college student to ever receive this honor. Station of the Year The CDR Radio Network (The PATH®), the media ministry of Cedarville University, has been named Crown Financial Ministries’ Station of the Year. Crown officially presented the recognition during the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Dallas in February. Crown presents this award to stations who have good audience response, mutual ministry goals with Crown, and a faithful partnership with the organization. CDR Radio has been the Dayton/ Springfield area’s exclusive broadcast outlet of Crown’s program “Money Matters” since the program’s inception. Station Manager Paul Gathany ’63 said, “‘Money Matters’ has helped many listeners understand biblical stewardship and how to more wisely use their God-given resources. Over the years, a true friendship has been forged between Crown and The PATH®.” To hear “Money Matters” on The PATH® via the Internet, visit www.ThePath.fm Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. Sarah leads a Cedarville University community ministry team called “Fostering Friendships,” which volunteers with the AGAPE for Youth (www.agapeforyouth.com ) family foster care agency in Dayton. For the past three years, Fostering Friendships has worked with AGAPE, under Sarah’s leadership, to link students with families that need mentors for their foster children. In addition to handling the administrative duties of her position, Sarah mentors a 15-year-old. This commitment involves helping the teen with homework, going out to eat, and talking about education and career aspirations. “Some weeks it’s like a full-time job, but I love it!” she exclaimed. Sarah Bayne ’06 was named the 2006 Outstanding One-to-One Mentor by the Montgomery County (Ohio) Mentoring Collaborative. She is shown here with the Mentoring Collaborative’s Sue Koverman and Mark Baker. Listen Think Pray Live Listen. Think. Pray. Live.
