Inspire, Spring 2011

let ters Dedicated Professors I remember how dedicated our engineering professors were. Each one could have been out consulting for six-figure salaries. Wind Energy Google “Ohio and turbines” to open your eyes to the heartbreaking reality that many rural communities are facing as multinational corporations move in to build wind farms. Some are proposing hundreds of nearly 500-foot turbines located near homes and businesses. Wind energy is industrial energy — the same as conventional energy. And what’s worse, industrial wind energy is neither efficient nor effective. The “five million households already powered by wind energy” cited in the fall/winter 2010 Inspire also rely on the conventional electricity grid. Wind doesn’t blow on command, and it doesn’t necessarily generate electricity when consumers actually use it. Stewardship of God’s earth demands that we be thoughtful and careful, always discerning the truth about the complex issues surrounding His Creation.
