Alumni in Training You never know where you will bump into a Cedarville graduate. Last fall, U.S. Army nurse Kaitlyn Cook ’10 participated in a leadership course for Army medical officers at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Participants included physicians, nurses, dentists, and other health care professionals commissioned as Army officers. Among the 60 officers in her platoon, Kaitlyn was pleasantly surprised to find another Cedarville grad, Major Craig Colas ’80. For the last 23 years, Craig has provided dental care for individuals with various disabilities at a developmental center in New York. He said, “I have always had the highest regard for the military and for those who choose to serve our nation, including our son Brandon ’06, who was commissioned in the Army through the ROTC program.” Two years ago, Craig spoke with an Army recruiter at a dental convention. “I joked about being too old to sign up at age 50,” Craig said, “but the recruiter told me about the Army Reserve Dental Corps.” After discussing it with his wife, Nancy (Tenney) ’81, Craig joined the Army Reserves Dental DIMA program. Starting this summer, he will provide dental care at various U.S. Army bases for a few weeks each year, taking the place of active duty Army dentists who are deployed. “Although I was one of the oldest officers attending the course, I thoroughly enjoyed the training and the chance to meet Army medical officers who are willing to deploy and serve our country,” said Craig. “It was a unique experience being there at the same time as Kaitlyn, who graduated from Cedarville with our son, Bradley ’10. I consider it an honor to help soldiers who are sacrificing to defend our freedoms.” alumni spotlight alumni spotlight alumni spotlight alumni spotlight alumni spotlight alumni spotlight alumni spotlight alumni spotlight Cedarville University 33 a lumnotes
