(All dates are subject to change.) Still The Hill Since it was built in 1974, The Hill has been home to thousands of Cedarville men. This summer, The Hill will undergo a renovation to align the residence hall with the look of other campus housing. Construction crews will begin setting up equipment right after commencement on May 7 in order to complete the project before students return in August. The biggest change will be converting the unit-style housing into halls and connecting Rogers, Marshall, and Carr residence halls under one roof. The current lounge space in Marshall’s basement will become living space, and all rooms will have air conditioning. Even with these changes, everything students love about The Hill — the traditions and sense of belonging — will remain. Rogers, Marshall, and Carr will keep their unique names and identities. “Guys who live in The Hill year after year stay because they want to be here,” said Adam McCune ’02, resident director since 2006. “That has helped build a close sense of community.” Dan Orr, supervisor of general maintenance, is the lead designer of the project. “This is the last piece of the residence hall renovations we’ve done over the past five years,” he said, “and this is the one I’m most excited about.” While Cedarville completed major upgrades on Maddox, Willetts, Lawlor, and Printy, students from The Hill maintained a certain pride about holding on to their “rustic” accommodations. “It’s a Spartan mentality,” said Adam. “The Hill is our home.” As they drew up the designs, Dan and his facilities team invited Adam and his staff of resident assistants to provide input on features they would like to see in the remodeled hall. These conversations led to the concept of a legacy wall, which will appear in the new lounge. Through photos of past residents and stories about The Hill, students will be connected to a larger community of former residents. “This project represents a paradigm shift for The Hill community — the end of an era,” Adam said. “The guys are excited to both honor the past and set a new trajectory for the next generation. Once a Hillian, always a Hillian.” Adam McCune ’02 welcomes your group photos of life in The Hill for the legacy wall. Please send digital images to amccune@cedarville.edu. Remodeling Highlights: • Convert units into halls with larger rooms • Connect Carr, Marshall, and Rogers • Lay a large patio with a built-in grill • Add nearly 5,000 square feet of living space • Replace the Marshall basement lounge with living space for 14 additional students • Install new windows and air conditioning • Construct a two-story lounge with kitchenette and study spaces • Unveil a legacy wall, honoring the history and traditions of The Hill • Maintain exterior brick and floors — everything else will be brand-new! More than 35 years ago, construction began on The Hill. This summer, it will undergo a major refurbishing project, marking the final step in a series of residence hall updates.
