BBI Celebrating 40! 0 n April 2,Cedarville College commemorated the merger of Cedarville College and Baptist Bible Institute ofCleveland(BBI)by "Celebrating 40!" BBI had desired a place where it could continue to grow and meet the increasing challenges of their Bible program, while the Presbyterian liberal arts college had sought a church group that would continue what their five founders started 66 years before. God satisfied the desires of both on April4, 1953, when Cedarville College and Baptist Bible Institute merged and continued operating under the charter ofthe College established in 1887. "Celebrating 40!" began with many Cedarville/BBI alumni returning to campus. Those alumni from 1953 to 1956 were invited to a special chapel service focusing on the transitional days. Dr. Gerald Smelser'91H,on the board of trustees for both BBI and Cedarville College, gave a brief overview of BBI.Dr.Donald Kyle'28, member ofthe board oftrustees during the transitional time, gave testimony ofGod's goodness to Cedarville College.Several others participated in the chapel program including Lynn Rogers'54,Dr.Jeremiah'90H,and Leigh Hunt '54.The program included an outstanding slide production.
