Inspire, Summer 1993

The student body elected Shelly Heldreth, president, and Becky Calvert, vice-president of the student government association(SGA)for the'93-94 school year. Shelley and Becky are busy planning for Homecoming'93 and developing goals and ideas which will effectively represent the student body. SGA is also considering a plan to implement interaction with SGAs of several Christian colleges. Seniors Only Night,sponsored by Undergraduate Alumni Association(UAA),drew 110 seniors for ice cream sundaes,news about the Cedarville College Alumni Association,and informative talks on life after college. Deborah Bush Haffey'68, assistant professor of communication arts, spoke on making community connections in a new city; Jeff Brock'84,senior annual fund officer, gave advice on money management after Cedarville; and Kim Ahlgrim, resident director of Printy dormitory, addressed the dilemma,"Help, I'm not married!" February 1993. Alan joined the navy in September 1990. Tom Simic'87 has started his first senior pastorate position at Goodfield Baptist Church in Goodfield, Illinois. He is also working on his seminary degree. His wife,Brenda(Gust'87), works at Normal Community Hospital.The Simics have two boys,David,4,and Jonathan, 1. Paul Norman'89finished his master's degree in rehabilitation counseling at Georgia State University. He is employed at New Medico in Cortland,New York as a vocational coordinator, working mainly with head trauma patients. He and his wife,Laura(Fenimore'91),live in Cortland. Stephen Ross'89 graduated from Wright State University School of Medicine,Dayton,Ohio on June 12, 1993.He will complete a one-year internship in internal medicine at Wright State and then begin a three-year residency in neurology at the University of Maryland,Baltimore. His wife, Jody(Hutchison'90),has been selected a member of Alpha Omega Alpha,the honor society for medicine.She will graduate from Wright State University School of Medicine in June 1994 and then begin her residency in Baltimore. Steve and Jody are expecting their first child in July 1993. Bryan Schroll'89 graduated from Temple Law School in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania and has successfully passed the bar exams for both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He is working for a small firm and living in Haddonfield,New Jersey. 90s Stephen A.Smith'91 received his master's in business administration from Stetson University in DeLand,Florida on May 16, 1993.He and his wife, Jill(Jacobs'91N)have two children, Kailey, 3,and Jake,2. Paul Wetzel'91N graduated from the University ofDayton with a degree in mechanical engineering in May 1993.Paul is now a design engineer with Acustar,a division ofthe Chrysler Corporation,in Dayton,Ohio. His wife,Jackie(Rohm '92),is a third grade teacher at Bethel Elementary School,a public school in Tipp City,Ohio. Beth Hofmann Brendle'92 is a nurse on the diabetic unit at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Her husband,Brent'90,is a portfolio analyst at Banc One in Columbus.The Brendles attend Northwest Bible Church in Hilliard,Ohio. Steve Gaglio'92 has a new position as assistant director ofeducation for Rochester Credit and Financial Management Association in Rochester, New York.Steve lives in Webster,New York. Tami Seidner'92 is the youth and family services coordinator for City Team Ministries in Chester, Pennsylvania.Tami majored in social work at Cedarville College. ONE IN CHRIST Diane De Nicola'78 and Michael Orlofsky were united in marriage on December 12, 1992. Both teach at Troy State University in Troy, Alabama, where Diane is associate professor of music and Mike is assistant professor ofEnglish. Charles Phillips'82and Virginia Johnson became husband and wife on February 26, 1993. A reception was given on March 20,1993 at Grand Heights Baptist Church in Fairborn,Ohio. Nobuya"Higgy"Higashiyama'83and Natalie Huesmann were married on August8,1992 at Grace Brethren Church in Worthington,Ohio.The Higashiyamas reside in Issaquah,a suburb of Seattle, Washington. Natalie is an English instructor at Everett Community College,and Higgy is working for Microsoft Corporation as a software design engineer. Kay Schramm'85N and Randy Cuthrell took their marriage vows before the Lord on August 11, 1989 at Troy Baptist Church in Troy, Michigan. The Cuthrells live in Royal Oak,Michigan. Sonya Nichols'86 and Michael Burton were 14SUMMER'93 married on February 26, 1993 in Miami,Florida on the cruise ship Royal Majesty.They live in Port Charlotte, Florida. Kevin Schleinitz'88 and Hope Livengood were wed on February 27, 1993 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Dayton,Ohio.They currently live in Beavercreek,Ohio. Cathy Anderson'89 and Tom Little united as one in marriage on April 17, 1993 at Grace Baptist Church in Erie,Pennsylvania.The Littles live in Douglasville, Georgia. Jerilynn Cudney'92 and Scott Beattie'89 became husband and wife on July 25, 1992 in a garden ceremony at Northwest Baptist Seminary in Tacoma, Washington.In December 1992,they relocated to Norfolk, Virginia where Scott serves as a commissioned attorney for the United States Navy and Jerilynn is pursuing a career in nursing. Kendra Williams'92 and Richard Dray'89 were united in marriage on August8, 1992.They live in Dallas,Texas, where Kendra teaches second grade at Pentago Christian Academy.Upon completion of Dick's fourth year at Dallas Theological Seminary, the Drays will move to Schroon Lake,New York where Dick will be on staff at Word ofLife Bible Institute. Lori Hamilton'92 and David Driskill'89 became one in Christ on June 20, 1992.They live in South Charleston,Ohio. Jennifer Smith'92and Steven Brumbaugh'90 took their wedding vows on September 26, 1992 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Lorain,Ohio.Steve is a professional tennis teacher at the Dayton Center Courts,Dayton,Ohio,and Jennifer is a department secretary at Piqua Memorial Hospital. Butch is a managerfor the McDonalds Corporation,and Dawn is a teacher at New Covenant Christian Academy.They reside in Cleveland,Ohio. Rebecca Smith'90 and Brian Lancenese'90 were united in holy matrimony on July 18, 1992. Kimberly Powelson'92 and Patrick Drury'91 were wed on June 29, 1992. Kim is teaching fourth grade at Possum Elementary School in Springfield, Ohio,and Pat works for Greene Memorial Hospital as human resources assistant. The Drurys live in Cedarville. Victoria Miller'92 and Curtis Stuenkel'91N became husband and wife on October 17, 1992. Victoria is a mental health and child care specialist at Lakewood and Southwood Psychiatric Hospitals in Pittsburg,Pennsylvania. Curtis is an accountant with Pen-Wel,Inc.,a division ofBlue Cross of Western Pennsylvania. Daniel Reed'91 and Roshanee Walker were united in matrimony on October 10, 1992. Beth is a staff nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore,Maryland, and Dave is in his second year oflaw school at the University of Maryland. Janice Ballentine'92 and James Cross'93N took their marriage vows on May 15, 1993 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Dayton,Ohio. Christy Blackburn'92and David Brewster celebrated their union on November 28, 1992.The Brewsters live in Dayton,Ohio,where Christy is the director of music at Calvary Baptist Church. Amy Hurst'92and Russell Imlay married on December 19, 1992 at Berean Bible Church in Columbus,Indiana. They live in Columbus where Amy works as a registered nurse in the birthing center ofColumbus Regional Hospital. Gwynne Davies'93and Seth Kinley'92 became husband and wife on May 22, 1993. Rebecca Reed'92 and David Mills'92joined in marriage before the Lord on May 30, 1993 in Bangor, Maine.David is working toward a Ph.D.in philosophy at Pennsylvania State University,and Rebecca is pursuing a career in secondary education. Nathan Reynolds'92and Kelly Hamilton united as one on August 15, 1992.They live in Greenfield,Indiana, where Nathan is an accountant for American Waterworks. Jennifer Stephens'92and Craig Winsor'92celebrated their wedding day on August 7, 1992.Jennifer is ajunior high science teacher at Springfield Christian School in Springfield, Ohio,and Craig has been substitute teaching. Of GOD Mark Trautman'75 and his wife,Barb, welcomed the birth oftheir first son,Kevin Charles,on January 21, 1993.Hejoins sisters Jennifer, 11, Kara,7,and Holly, 14 months. Mark is the pastor ofChampion Baptist Church in Warren,Ohio. Dennis Few'78 and his wife,Sue Anne,are delighted to share the birth of Kristine Elizabeth on March 27, 1993. She weighed 8 lbs. 1 oz. and measured 21 in. Kristine was welcomed home by her brother, Ryan,7,and her sister, Nicole,20 months. Kent Craig'80 and his wife, Kelly,are rejoicing in the birth oftheir second daughter, Kandace Joy,on April 26, 1993.She weighed 8 lbs. 10 oz.and joins her big sister, Kari Joy,3. Kandace was born in Manila,the Philippines, where the Craigs are missionaries with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism(ABWE). David Lewis'81 and his wife, Kelly,joyfully announce the birth oftheir son,Jordan David,on March 25, 1993. He weighed 10 lbs.8 oz.and was 24 in. Jordan joins Mary Elizabeth,4,and Rachel,2.David is the pastor of Grace Bible Church in Cissna Park,Illinois. Daryl Waterman'81 and his wife, Melanie, welcomed the arrival ofLindsey Ruth on Easter Sunday,April 11, 1993. Lindsey weighed9lbs. 11 oz.and joins her brother,Shayne, 1. Mark Brant'82 and his wife,Lisa,are pleased to announce the birth of Micah Ian on February 17, 1993. Micah weighed 8 lbs.7 oz. and measured 20 1/2 in. Alexander,5,and Corinna,3, welcomed him home.Mark and his father own and operate a commercial printing company,Wilkinson Printing,in Van Wert,Ohio. Ron Hobar'82 and his wife,Linda,are elated to announce the addition of Ashley Marie to their family. Ashley was born on February 19, 1993 weighing 8lbs. 12oz.and measuring 20 1/2 in. Her happy sister, Heather,7,and brother, Kyle,4,welcomed her home. Roscoe'82 and Rhonda Crist Smith'83 are thrilled at the arrival oftheir daughter,Kalie Rose,born on April 26, 1993. Kalie weighed 7 lbs. 1 oz.and measured 19 1/2 in. Roscoe is the associate director ofadmissions for Cedarville College. Louis'84N and Karen Crawford D'Amico'83 are delighted to announce the birth oftheir daughter,Katelyn Joy,on February 8, 1993.She weighed6lbs.8oz. and measured 18 1/2 in. Her brother, Daniel,2,welcomed her home. Timothy'83and Cindy Armstrong Fisher'84 are pleased at the arrival of Kayleigh Anne on March 13, 1993.She weighed 7lbs.8 oz.and was 19 1/2 in. Ashley, 6,and Joseph,4,welcomed her home.Tim is the financial aid administrator for Cedarville College,and Cindy is gift coordinator for the Annual Fund office. Cheryl Lutz Grady'83and her husband,Wayne,are the proud parents oftheir third child, Patrick Robert, born April 4, 1993.Patrick weighed 8 lbs. 10 1/2 oz. and was 20 1/2 in.
