Inspire, Summer 1993
Cedarville's debate team competed at intercollegiate tournaments from October to April of the 92-93 school year. Competing at seven regional tournaments and placing fifth or better at each one, Cedarville is ranked number one in the state and placed fourth in our four-state region behind Ball State University, Hillsdale College, and Michigan State University. Parents Weekend, May 7-8,saw over 500 parents join their students for a variety of events on the campus of Cedarville College. Parents enjoyed attending classes, Honors Day chapel, the Pops concert, and much more. For the Rifenbericks it was an opportunity to relive college days and to become reacquainted with the campus. Heather,a senior Communication Arts major, is pictured here with her parents, David '64 and Elaine Hirschy Rifenberick '64. Rosemary Pletcher and Beth Woods try on their caps in preparation for graduation. Picking up graduation tickets is a must! Faculty Member Grows With Class of'93 D r. Pamela Diehl wears many hats on campus. She was Faculty Member ofthe Year in 1992,and alumni know her as Honorary Alumna ofthe Year 1990 and as the women's tennis coach. Her friends and family admire her for earning both a master's and doctoral degree from The Ohio State University. Students refer to Pam as the co-author of the PACL text book—that beloved physical education requirement that all must fulfill to receive their diploma. But the senior class calls her great! Pam has guided the class of 1993 for the past four years as their advisor and they love her! The role ofclass advisor has been a delight for Pam as she has watched the students mature over four years at Cedarville College. The concern and sensitivity ofthe seniors has demonstrated character which Pam finds admirable. Pam states,"Being a class advisor gives students the opportunity to know me in a different role other than Dr. Diehl, professor. I am able to pray with them for their many concerns and needs, and they pray for me,too. The class is praying that unsaved family members who will attend graduation will be saved. I think the times ofprayer together are my most precious memories." Other memories for Pam include the annual building of the class float, (who can forget that experience!),the seniors' willingness to take responsibility for projects, and working with the Junior/Senior committee during 1992.The faculty and staff members who devote time and energy to wearing the hat ofclass advisor win our praise and affection. Pain Diehl wears that hat well! Seniors enjoy Chicago-style hot dogs at the Senior Parking Lot Party sponsored by the Alumni Association. Senior Gift T he Class of 1993 presents a flag pole to the Cedarville College family for their class gift and legacy. The class is establishing an area between the James T. Jeremiah Chapel and the Centennial Library to accommodate the tradition of praying around the flag pole on National Day ofPrayer.
