a On April 29-30 and May 5-7,the Department of Communication Arts presented The Sound of Musicfor a record-breaking nine performances. Mrs. Rebecca Baker directed the popular musical that featured a cast composed of students, staff, and residents of the Cedarville area. These performances were dedicated to Rebecca Baker's mother, Julie Rosser McGuire (February 10, 1918-April 2, 1994). Creating a Successful Christian Marriage(fourth edition) is co-authored by Cleveland McDonald and his son, Philip M. McDonald '74. According to the authors,the new edition is "specifically designed to equip young people to make an intelligent choice of a mate and to learn what to anticipate in marital interaction using biblical principles." The fourth edition has new chapters on parenting, single-parent families, communication, intimacy, and international living for couples who face the added stress of married life in a cross-cultural setting. Cleveland McDonald is professor emeritus of Cedarville College and a former pastor and missionary. He holds a Ph.D.from The Ohio State University. Philip McDonald'74 has a Ph.D. in international education from the Institute for International Studies in Education, Michigan State University. The new edition published by Baker Book House will be used in the "Marriage and the Family" class at Cedarville College beginning fall quarter 1994. Nicki Silvera, an applied psychology major from Ontario, Canada, eagerly awaits her opportunity to cross the stage and receive her diploma. The Class of 1994 presents an old-fashioned drinking fountain and a park bench for their class gift and legacy. Gary Stickley, senior class president, announced the gift during graduation ceremonies on June 4, 1994. The items will be placed near the Centennial Library on graduation weekend for immediate use. Cynthia Tate, an English education major from Centerville, Ohio, received this year's Faculty Scholarship Award for the highest GPA. Happy graduates from the 449 new Alumni Association members! Dr. Paul Tassell'85H (middle) received the first-ever Cedarville College Medal of Honor.The recognition cites 40 years of ministry, during which Dr. Tassell served as pastor, authored numerous books, and encouraged countless other pastors in their ministries. Dr. Tassell has been a member of the Cedarville College Board of Trustees since 1965 and recently retired from the position of National Representative of the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches. Part of the written award reads,"Dr. Tassell embodies those traits which are held in high esteem by the Cedarville College family—a deep love for God and for people, devotion to his family, an exemplary level of professional achievement, and an unwavering commitment to the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ." Al Stevens (left), chairman of Cedarville's Board of Trustees, presented the award with President Dixon.
