The Yellow Jacket baseball team qualified for the NAIA District 22 playoffs for the first time in five years. They also split four games at the National Christian College Athletic Association(NCCAA)District III tournament, where sophomore Steve Mays,senior Dan Brown,and sophomore Clint Miller were selected to the all-district team. The challenges ofa'90s world looking for solutions,fixes,cures,and strategies for everything from world peace to personal loneliness are immense.Immense challenges require thinking big. Syndicated news columnist Cal Thomas has said that Christians should not despair because of"the times"in which we live. Nathan Elmore'94served as student body chaplain during the 1993-94 schoolyear. The college forensics team took the state title for the fifth consecutive year as it hosted the 1994 Ohio Forensics Association Varsity Tournament February 18-19. Over 120 students from 12 Ohio colleges and universities competed. Contributing to Cedarville's victory were points earned at the novice tournament held two weeks earlier at Ohio State. Cedarville's closest competitor was the Miami University team, which is coached by Jeff Joiner'91. In third and fourth place were The Ohio State University and Ohio University. Dr. David Robey, associate professor of communication arts, is coach and director of the forensics program. Gary Barker'86, assistant professor of comunication arts, is the assistant coach. Music education majors Jennifer Dilling and Nathan Dobert march ahead to receive their diplomas. Sisters Sharon Michael Willms'88 and Christine Michael Mitchell'91 congratulate Lynda as the final of four sisters to graduate from Cedarville College. Mr. and Mrs. John Michael join their daughters. Elena Michael Barfell'86 celebrated from he home in Fort Myers, Florida. Nancy Ranger is thrilled to complete her degree in business communications technology while working full-time as secretary for the Cedarville College Athletic Department. Congratulations, Nancy! Carrie Katrinak is thrilled to pick up her graduation tickets at the Senior Parking Lot Party. This year-end tradition is brought to seniors by the Alumni Association and CAO. Faculty Member ofthe Year he College recently honored the 1994 Faculty Member ofthe Year John McGillivray '70,associate professor of physical education and head soccer coach for 20 years. Professor McGillivray,a 1993 inductee into the National Association ofIntercollegiate Athletics(NAIA)Hall ofFame,has been involved with leadership in the NAIA district, area,and national associations for many years. Both Ohio and national soccer officials associations awarded him,citing his character, attitude,and behavior. He and his wife,Bonnie,have five children,Scott'92,Jennifer'92,Beth Kuhn'87,Joseph (22),and Stephen(18). The McGillivrays enjoy two grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Kuhn(2)and Michael Benjamin Kuhn(2 months). StaffMember o the Year he 1994 Staff Member ofthe Year is Patricia(Trish)Huber,secretary to the Departmentof Social Sciences and History. Mrs. Huber has been with the College for fourteen years and has served in her present capacity for the past twelve. A colleague says,"The bottom line regarding what I have observed [in Trish]is true Christianity at work,day in and day out."She and her husband,Curtis, have two daughters,Teresa Weiss'89 and Cindy Maxson'90. The Hubers live in Xenia and enjoy being close to their two grandchildren,Curtis Paull Maxson(19 months)and Jessica Nicole Maxson(6 months). 7SUMMER'94
