Robert'94 and Cindy Moodie Burns'94 announce the birth of Griffin Robert on October 30, 1998. Brothers Jordan (3)and Brendon (2)welcomed him home. Cindy stays at home with the boys, and Bob works as a Maine state trooper. Phil'94 and Sue DeMan Huber '94 announce the birth of Carissa Ann on October 7, 1998. In May 1998, Phil received a master of divinity degree, cum laude, from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. The Huber family resides in Camillus, New York, where Phil is pastor of Trinity Baptist Church. Brian '94 and Janet Chezik Megilligan '94 announce the birth of Austin Keith on October 25, 1998. The Megilligans reside in Mogadore, Ohio. Aaron '95 and Ann Weise Graham '95 announce the birth of Avery Ann on December 17, 1998. The family lives in Manassas, Virginia. Jamie'98 and April Tolosa Hand '96N announce the birth of Olivia Michel on December 4, 1998. Sisters Ashley(4)and MiKayla(1) welcomed her home in Xenia, Ohio. Focus ON THE FIELD Sam '56 and Ellen Smith Hornbrook '56 are praising the Lord for reuniting a divided church in Poza Rica, Mexico. Sam assumed the interim pastorate at Emmanuel Baptist Church, and they are awaiting an answer from a pastoral candidate. The church recently voted to purchase some additional land, and Sam is working on a faith promise plan in order to purchase the property. Along with their responsibilities at Emmanuel Baptist, they will be working in many music amps this spring. Ray'59 and Jan Van Horn Reiner '66 arrived in Brazil in December 1998. They were pleased to find the work in very good condition. Ray and Jan have been very busy with setting up house, camps, many missionary conferences, and a retreat. They were encouraged by the salvation decisions of six children and two adults since December. Ray brought a series of messages to seminary students in Crato in early May. They are thankful that Jan received a favorable opinion from a local oncologist. Mary'65 and Joan Carter Stephens'65 have been blessed with a monthly support level increase. Mary and Joan continue to serve with Editorial Bautista lndependiente (EBI) in Sebring, Florida. EBI recently purchased a new building, and they are to move in by September. Please pray that the necessary funds will be raised soon and that their current building will sell quickly. They are also excited to see their family growing and happy. Their son and daughter-in-law, Craig '92 and Jen Winsor Stephens '92, are expecting their second baby in June; their son Jason is getting married in April; and their third son, Nathan, continues to do well at Cedarville College. Grace Trimble Kintner '67N and her husband, David, are finalizing plans for Brazil. They are looking forward to having their translated Portuguese fourth year Bible Seekers material proofed by a Brazilian professor. While they have been awaiting their travel to Brazil, they have been able to minister to friends and children in Silva, Missouri. Ken Cole '70 and his wife, Alice, are counting it a privilege to visit their supporting churches while on furlough from the Philippines. They plan to return to Manila in July 1999. Sue Farley '71 continues to serve in Hong Kong. She is planning to attend ABWE's Missionary Enrichment Conference while on summer ministries. Sue asks that you pray she will find someone to care for her apartment during this time. Because of the economic downturn in Hong Kong, some of the ladies have lost their jobs and are electing to attend one of the ABWE Bible colleges in the Philippines. Praise the Lord! Barbara Cooper Klumpp'74 and her husband, Philip, desire to be back in the Philippines with ABWE. Currently they are in Shiremanstown, Pennsylvania, due to a need with their son, Andrew. Vic Millard '75 and his wife, Cyndi, are excited to see students at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania allowing God's Word to work in their lives. Vic and Cyndi are responsible for 25 weekly one-on-one Bible studies. They are pleased to see around 25-30 students attending their Monday evening Bible studies. Please pray for a need in their monthly financial support. Len Mohler'75 and his wife, Judy, rejoice that their support commitments have increased to 29.2 percent during deputation. Len is trying to devote time to teaching at Maranatha Christian School in Columbus, Ohio and also to the deputation ministry. They do praise the Lord for nine new meeting dates with churches. Paul Beck '76 and his wife, Becky, have resumed their work with CBInternational in the Philippines. They are praising the Lord for the unusually cool weather and the relatively easy transition time. Pray for their daughter, Amanda, as she adjusts to school. Jon '76 and Dee Perry Mitchell'76 are working with Baptist Mid- Missions in Brazil with their four boys, Joel, Nathan, Marcus, and Timmy. They are praying and seeking direction from God about the purchase of a lot and house next door to their current house. This location would be used for their church services. The Mitchells are planning a short furlough from June 1999 to January 2000 to take Joel back to the States for graduation and to help him begin college at Faith Baptist College in Ankeny, Iowa. Evandro Batista '77 and his family are enjoying their furlough from their church-planting ministry in Portugal with ABWE. In September 1998, Evandro and Elina enrolled their oldest son, Kevin, as a freshman at Cedarville College. The Libson Training Center project is going well and could be completed with the funds that they have. Martin '78 and Denise Gawthrop Shaw '78 are serving the Lord in Japan. Martin is working with the Japanese CB Association Missions Committee with the goal of forming the first Japanese Baptist mission. This would be an organization for sending out Japanese missionaries from Japan. The Shaws have two children, Alison and Aaron. John '79 and Michele Meeker Morgan '79 are involved with church planting in Columbus, Ohio through ABWE. The youth in their church are thriving with the help of two new youth leaders. John was excited to see several people taking a step of obedience when the first baptism was held in April. Jeff'80 and Debbie Mullet Warix '79N seek your prayers for some heavy burdens. Jeff was terminated from his secular job after six years of service. The earnings from this job made up for the deficit in their support. Pray that God would provide secular employment soon. They also sense Satan's attack in several cases where their desire to see growth in new converts has been minimized. They are praying for a specific permanent facility that is currently owned by a Mormon businessman. Jeff and Debbie are praying "that God would work a few miracles." They are serving the Lord in Utah. Delana Phillips Powers'82 and her husband, Rick, continue their furlough from Minnesota State at Mankato with Campus Bible Fellowship. Recently they have had a lot of interest in their campus newspaper. The paper has printed a few opinion pieces and replies that are on target with Christian values. Carolyn Winsor Bitner'84 and her husband, Pete, are adjusting to life in "Kotokoli Kountry" in West Africa. They are missionaries with SIM USA. Pray that they are able to fit in with their surroundings as much as possible so that nothing will hinder building relationships or people coming to the Lord. Pete and Carolyn have one son, Andrew(18 months). Debbie Dower'84 shares her excitement regarding the many wonderful things that are happening at Black Forest Acudemy, Germany. Debbie enjoys a weekly Bible study with six senior girls and is the senior class sponsor. In addition to her regular routine of testing and meeting with students, Debbie prepared for a seminar for the National Institute for Learning Disabilities in March 1999. Jonathan '90 and Lori Rogers Haskell'90 continue to serve with ABWE as missionaries in Hungary. Jon and Lori are working hard to implement children's programs in their churches. In February 1999, Jon spoke at a church youth rally in Zahony. This church is a potential partner in their work for the Lord. Bobby'90 and Sara Sweetland Hile '92 are experiencing difficulties due to having a car stolen. This car was used for transporting Bible college students to youth and young adult meetings. The Hiles minister in Durban, South Africa. Kevin '92 and Cynthia Reed Reilly '85 have begun their first term as missionaries with ABWE in Paraguay. Kevin and Tia have four children: Sean (10), Kaitlyn (8), Colleen (6), and Tara (4). Amy Brien Eagle'94 and her husband, Johnnie, have left Inner City Impact in Chicago, Illinois. Johnnie has accepted a one-year internship at Armitage Baptist Church where he will focus his efforts in the children's ministries. They praise the Lord that Amy will be working as the church secretary. Brenda Sprankle'94 is working with Word of Life Hungary. Brenda is facing challenges and major adjustments with the task of thinking and speaking Hungarian. Taryn Campbell'96 recently returned from a 10-day missions trip to India. She was overwhelmed with emotion as she ministered to over 600 orphans. Taryn is preparing to go for an eight-month short-term missionary trip to India in September 1999. She will co-lead a team of 10 Americans and will care for the orphans at the Emmanuel Orphanage. IN MEMORY OF Ralph Hill'54N passed away February 25, 1999, at the age of 95. He helped establish Calvary Baptist Tabernacle in the 1930s, was ordained to the ministry in 1957, and founded two churches in Ohio in 1961. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Smithville, Ohio. We extend our sympathies to his grandson, Dan '77, his wife, Martha Sprano Reidel '79, and many other family members. Lorna Wigton '77 passed away February 3, 1999. Lorna died unexpectedly from pneumonia at her home in Washington, Georgia. After earning her elementary education degree at Cedarville, she studied kindergarten and special education at The Ohio State University and continued special education studies at the University of Georgia and Augusta State University. She was teaching special needs children ages three through six at Washington-Wilkes Primary School, where she had worked for several years. Our sincere condolences extend to her mother, Margery, and other family members. Chris Ann Terry Schultz'95 wrote the following poem in honor of Mrs. Agnes Biddle for her life of serving God and serving others. In His Care In His care, we know she lives. Someone who we loved and cared for, In His care, someone who gave, Her life to serve our Lord. We can know that she is in His care. Just as He cares for us.
