lumni Association News 1999 Alumni Scholarship Recipients 11 - nterest generated by the Alumni Scholarship and Grant Endowment Fund provides a $500 scholarship for an outstanding freshman, sophomore,orjunior student(or,in rare circumstances,an outstand- ing senior)enrolled in each academic department.The faculty of each department select their recipients. Biblical Education A native ofToledo,Ohio,Shawn Graves participates in track and field, Timalathians,local tutoring, and children's Wednesday night ministry. After he graduates with degrees in philosophy and English, he hopes to pursue a doctorate in philosophy and teach at a secular institution. Iam truly humbled by being selectedfor this scholar- ship. Thank youfor giving to the Lord as He continues to prepare me to do His work. May His glory shine through my life to those that Icome in contact with. Business Brenon Christofer, ajunior management information systems major from Republic,Ohio,enjoys involvement in theater and forensics. He wants to be open to what God would have him do after graduation,and he is considering working either in the private sector or in the FBI. Iconsider it an honor to be chosen to receive this award, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the alumnifor making this award available. Iam continually amazed at how God has blessed me during my last three years here at Cedarville. Communication Arts As program director for Cedarville's student radio station U99.5 FM,junior Michael Koerbel manages more than 35 DJs and coordinates the station's news, production,and music departments. After he graduates with a double major in broadcasting and multimedia technologies(with emphases in video production, man- agement/sales, and broadcast production), he plans on entering secular broadcasting to serve the Lord. He is a native of Atoka,Tennessee. Thank you so muchfor choosing me to receive this award. Ithank Godfor the encouragement He sends my way in many differentfashions. I appreciate your desire and demonstration to see students achieve and glorify God in all that they do. This is truly a blessing. Education A product of White Cloud, Michigan,Grace Frisbey is ajunior elementary education major hoping to pursue a teaching career in Dayton after graduation. Grace is currently involved as a Sunday school and nursery worker,a behavioral therapist for an autistic child, and a social science/professional studies student advisory committee member. Iam humbled by your recognition ofmy achievements here at Cedarville College.Ithank youfor allowing me the privilege ofbeing honored in this manner Your award is another reminder to me ofthe goodness ofour God.I thank youfrom the very bottom ofmy heart! Engineering Brandon Perkins balances his mechanical engineering studies with leading World Missions Fellowship, working in FIRE by Prayer,teaching English at Dayton Chinese Christian Church,playing soccer and ultimate frisbee, and serving as photographic editor for Cedars. Ajunior from Chatham,New York,he plans to work in the engineering industry before possibly attending graduate school. Eventually he would like to enter the foreign mission field as a tentmaker. You have been so generous in your gift of this scholarship. Iam humbled to be chosenfor the honor ofreceiving this scholarship. God has truly used you to demonstrate Hisfaithfulness and provision for His children. Physical Education Michele Vanlier, a junior exercise science and sports management major from Pittsgrove, New Jersey, would like to earn a master's degree in exercise science and physiology after graduation. An active intra- mural sports participant and lifeguard for the YMCA, she is also involved in local church youth groups,Alpha Delta Omega,and the Student Life Board. Iam so thankfulfor being chosenfor this award. It is truly a giftfrom the Lord, and Iam amazed at His grace. Ilookforward to thefuture that He hasfor me,and I pray that everything Ido will bring Him glory. Language and Literature Ajunior professional writing major from Saginaw, Michigan,Rachel Morris is involved in Zion's Light tutoring, the Society for Technical Communication, World Missions Fellowship, and Mu Kappa International. She would like to study theology and linguistics at the seminary level and use her skills for future ministry in Bible translation. Since I will be using my professional writing in a mission internship this summer,I was encouraged to receive a gift toward next year's tuition. Nursing Ajunior cross-cultural nursing major,Jana Glessner hails from Tacoma,Washington.She is involved at Cedarville as a resident assistant, accompanist for Concert Chorale, and a leadership team member of Prayer Force. While her short-term plans include a missions trip to Togo,West Africa, her long-term vision involves nursing experience in the U.S. and possible nursing missions work abroad. Psychology Ajunior applied psychology major, Ann Marie Swartz is active in the Alpha Psi Omega psychology club, men- toring, nursing home ministry, and target calling for the admissions office. After graduation, this London,Ohio native plans to earn a master's degree in social work from The Ohio State University. During my time at Cedarville, God has worked in many areas ofmy life. Ipray that this growth will continue and that I may be a testimony to others ofGod'sfaithfulness and love. Thank youfor your support ofthose being trained in higher education at Cedarville. Science and Mathematics Maranatha Ruberg,ajunior chemistry major from Matthews,Indiana, is involved in a variety of activities, including intramural volleyball and softball, admissions activities, and children's ministry at her local church. She plans to do graduate work in pharmaceutical science and to minister in deaf, music,or children's ministry. I appreciate so much the abilities God has given me. All the credit goes to Him. However, you deserve credit, too. Without your generosity and interest in the students here, we would not experience the encouragement that this award gives. Thank you so much! Social Science and History A sophomore history/political science major, Aaron Mercer is vice president ofthe campus Young Republicans, member of the Student Advisory Committee,and member of the Timalathians. This Framingham, Massachusetts native also participates in senior high youth group ministry, pep band,and intra- mural sports. Pending God's direction, he plans to move on to graduate study and perhaps a career in the State Department or the political arena. This award is truly a blessingfrom the Lord. Council News T he Alumni-Council met on April 30 and May 1, 1999 to develop some key strategies for the coming year and discuss ways to better meet the needs of the Cedarville College Alumni Association. Working in committees, the'members of the council discussed such topics as getting current students familiar with alumni,alumni involvement in the annual fund,scholarships and campaign, meeting the needs of alumni in their different regions,and new council members and award recipients.
