Inspire, Summer 2001
What's President's Pen ButHe knoweth the way thatItake: when he hath tried me,1shall come forth as gold(Job 23:10). / remember a chapel series I gave on"The Trials of the College Student." We looked at the trials of Joseph and the trials of Job,and our theme verse was Job 23:10. I also remember Curtis Hoke'83, who was president of the student body during his junior year. Curtis was special to me because he was saved in one of my evangelistic meetings before he came to the 'Ville. During the summer of 1983, Curtis was swimming in a farm pond, dove into the water, and broke his neck.As he lay on the ground waiting for the ambulance,he said,"Call Dr. Dixon and tell him 'the Lord knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me,I shall come forth as gold." Praise the Lord that He is the God of the mountains and the God of the valleys. There will be trials throughout life, in many shapes and sizes, but He is always there for us. After all, we at Cedarville are one big, secure, growing, happy family—most of the time, but not all ofthe time. There are good times and tough times. That's life for the 18- to 21-year-old and life for the Christian, too. We in the Cedarville family want to be there for students and graduates who are hurting. I once again said at graduation on June 2,2001,"If you ever have a need the rest of your life, call me collect." And you do call, although not always collect! I love to hear about your blessings and your pain. We count it a privilege to pray for you in chapel. Mrs.Dixon and I have tried to be there for all of you.The day will come when we will be unable to do so, but remember—our Lord always has been and always will be there. He is in charge ofthe blessings and the trials for His glory and our processing into gold. Mrs.Dixon and I miss you and love you.And remember,if you ever have a need, call me collect. 7°0_,‘„e Paul Dixon'94H President 4Summer 2001 0 Annual Missions Conference Brings Great Response H undreds of Cedarville University students made personal decisions for ministry at the University's 2001 Missions Conference, held March 26-30. The theme of the conference was "Growing a Great Commission Family," an outgrowth of the University's academic-year theme of "Rediscovering God's Plan for the Family" and a reminder of Christ's commission to His followers at His ascension. An international slate of speakers challenged the University family. Dr. Charles Ware, president of Crossroads Bible College, Indianapolis, Indiana, served as keynote speaker, and Dr. Patrick Cates, president of Christar (formerly International Missions, Inc.), gave the opening address. Other speakers included William Bolthouse, M.D., a surgeon in Macedonia; and Harry Gebert, M.D., and Jan Gebert, M.D., who formerly operated a health center in West Africa. Thomas Hale Jr., M.D., and Cynthia B. Hale, M.D., who served as medical missionaries to Nepal, and David Topazian, D.D.S., a missionary with The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM)and current president of MedSend, also made presentations. In addition, 90 missionaries, representing dozens of international ministries, exhibited displays and interacted with students throughout the conference.
