Inspire, Summer 2004

Class of ’04 Hits The Job Market!! An exciting future awaits our 2004 graduates! This dynamic group of students will enter various top-level positions and graduate school programs across the country in the coming months. It is the privilege of the career services office to play a vital role in helping these students as they anticipate the next step in God’s plan for their lives. Networking with our alumni has been of great value as we endeavor to help our students impact their world for Christ. Alumni play a crucial role in helping current students locate opportunities and reach their career goals. CareerNet is a network of parents, alumni, and friends of the University who partner with us to help students. If you are willing to call in job opportunities, influence your company to attend Career Link recruiting events, encourage internships with your company, or act as a general “career link” to your region, register online at www.cedarville.edu/home/cs/cr/cscr02c.cfm to become part of our CareerNet. Career Services Office Contact Lew Gibbs gibbsl@cedarville.edu 100% Alumni participation That’s our goal for this year. Dr. Brown has laid down the challenge for the alumni family. Organizations like U.S. News & World Report measure alumni loyalty by how many give a gift to their alma mater annually. Is this the best measure? Not by a long shot. We know our alums are “backing the Jackets” in many immeasurable ways. But we want our alumni to be recognized for that, so we challenge you to show your true colors — blue and gold — and stand with Cedarville. As an alum, you are an integral part of our family, and we need your help in advancing the ’Ville. Many are showing their loyalty, backing the Jackets all the way! Your gift will help make a serious dent in that 100% alumni participation goal. Remember, the size of your gift does not matter to us; the gesture does. If you have any questions about how you can get involved, please call us at 1-800-766-1115 or visit www.cedarville.edu/bridgethegap. Annual Fund Office Contact Jeff Brock ’84 brockj@cedarville.edu A Charitable Solution for A Secure Retirement Karen taught high school students for 25 years. Throughout her career, she found that her abilities were tremendously enhanced by the education she had received at Cedarville University. Like many alumni, Karen decided one day that she wanted to give something back to her alma mater. After consulting with Dave Bartlett and Kim Botta Longo ’02 in the office of gift planning, Karen decided that a deferred gift annuity was the perfect gift vehicle to suit her needs. This option allows her to make a gift, receive a charitable income tax deduction, and create secure income for retirement all at the same time. A deferred gift annuity is a simple contract between a donor and Cedarville University. The donor makes a gift to Cedarville, and in return the University agrees to pay a fixed income to the donor for life beginning at a predetermined age, usually 65. The donor also receives a charitable income tax deduction. The payment rate is determined by the donor’s age at the time the gift is made and the age at which the donor wishes to begin receiving the income. Because the income is deferred, a higher rate of return can be paid out, making charitable deferred gift annuities a great way to prepare for retirement. If you are like Karen and want to increase your retirement income by helping Cedarville, please contact the office of gift planning.
