Language and Literature Sophomore English major Bethany Deidel is contemplating many options for her future, including graduate school, work at a publishing house, or editing for a literary journal. The Haxtun, Colorado product is currently involved with the Student Government Association activities committee, Sanctify women’s ministry, the chapel prayer team, and The Cedarville Review . I would like to thank the alumni for awarding me this scholarship. It was both a surprise and a blessing. Your continued faithfulness to Cedarville, even after graduation, is an encouragement, and I appreciate your generosity. It is an example and challenge to me. Music and Art As a double-major in trumpet performance and political science, Emmett Robinson has been busy with orchestra, brass choir, jazz band, the spring musical Camelot , tutoring, ministry at the Dayton Gospel Mission, and the Sigma Delta Gamma music service organization. This sophomore is from Greenwich, Ohio. I truly appreciate Cedarville alumni and their continuing support for Christ-centered academics here at CU. I am very grateful for your support financially through this award. The most encouraging aspect of the award, however, is the thought that so many CU alums, though removed from the day-to-day activities of life as a student at Cedarville, care deeply about those of us who are current students. Nursing Junior nursing major Abigail Winburn stays busy with her work on the campus activities board and the Student Academic Advisory Board. She has volunteered at Greene Memorial Hospital and has been involved in cross country, track and field, and the Phi Gamma Psi social organization. A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Abigail would like to someday earn a master’s degree and become a licensed nurse practitioner. Thank you for your generosity and believing in Cedarville’s mission to equip students to further the Kingdom. I am honored and humbled to receive such a gift by persons unknown, and I accept it with responsibility. Thank you for this blessing in my life. Psychology Jared Michonski, a junior psychology major, is a member of the Alpha Psi Omega psychology club and the tennis team. The Maytown, Pennsylvania product plans on attending graduate school and serving others through the field of psychology. I would like to thank the alumni for choosing me as the recipient for this scholarship. I am both honored and grateful to receive this generous award. Thank you! Science and Mathematics Stephen Livesay’s desire is to pursue a Ph.D./M.D. program in some aspect of molecular biology or biochemistry after graduation. The junior biology major also wants to influence high schoolers through instructing color guard. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Stephen currently is a member of Dayton’s Onyx Color Guard and participates in Open Heirs. This award lets me know the alumni support me and the path I am on in life. Thank you for that confidence, and I will attempt to produce a life pleasing to God through this gift. Social Sciences and History Sarah VanWinkle hopes to snag a youth-focused social work position in her home state of Michigan after graduation. She would also like to get her master’s degree and travel to Africa to help at-risk children. While currently preparing for a summer missions trip to Uganda to work with orphans, the junior social work major serves on the social work advisory council. I want to thank the alumni for this scholarship. It is such an honor to be given this award. I appreciate your willingness to give back to students at Cedarville and your encouragement toward us to do the best we can with our abilities. At the April 11 Honors Day ceremony, students revealed their picks for Faculty Member of the Year and Staff Member of the Year. Dr. Chris Miller, chair of the department of biblical education and professor of Bible, was the students’ choice for Faculty Member of the Year. Sports Information Director (SID) Mark Womack ’82 was pegged as Staff Member of the Year. In announcing Dr. Miller as the faculty recipient, Student Academic Advisory Board President Shelby Keyser ’05 explained, “The high quality of his teaching and his apparent love for students have given his classes a reputation as the best Cedarville Bible classes. … He is capable of teaching the Old Testament in a way that makes it come alive for students. … Students learn not only from the content of the courses that he teaches, but also from the character of the man that is teaching them.” Dr. Miller has been on the Cedarville faculty since 1991. He holds degrees from Tennessee Temple University, Grace Theological Seminary, and Dallas Theological Seminary and has studied at the Institute of Holy Land Studies in Jerusalem. He and his wife, Pam, have three children. Mark has served as the University’s SID since 1983. He built Cedarville’s sports information program almost from the ground up and coordinates all of the information and statistics generated by the Yellow Jacket varsity teams. The recipient of the Clarence “Ike” Pearson Award (the NAIA-SIDA’s highest honor), Mark has seen his SID Web site twice voted No. 1 in the NAIA (http://yellowjackets . cedarville.edu). Shelby described Mark as “genuinely humble, gracious, and selfless” and noted that one of his peers testified, “Excellence is his standard, and that permeates all of his work.” Mark and his wife, Amy (Young) ’80, have three children.
