He joined the CU faculty in 1999 and teaches courses on American national government and political theory. major from Lynchburg, Virginia, Angela said, “I figured that I would audition [for the semi-chorus] just to have the experience of being able to sing in front of John Rutter. … Being chosen for the soprano line was one of the most satisfying moments of my musical career. … I felt so privileged to be able to sing for Mr. Rutter, and not only that, but on stage in Carnegie Hall on Easter Sunday!” Angela and the other women’s choir members earned the money for the trip to New York by working odd jobs in the community. This is the second time that the women’s choir has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall. Profs Selected to Study Terrorism Dr. Frank Jenista ’68 and Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riaño ’94 were selected as Academic Fellows by the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD). They traveled to Israel in May for a 10-day intensive course in terrorism studies and, in particular, to learn how democracies can defeat the worldwide terrorist threat. FDD is a non-partisan policy institute headquartered in Washington, D.C. Its Academic Fellows program provides a 10-day learning experience to U.S.- based teaching and research professionals to provide them with cutting edge information about defeating terrorist groups. The 2005 program, held at Tel Aviv University, included lectures by academics, military and intelligence Dr. Frank Jenista '68 Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riaño ’94 Cedarville University, the University’s Center for Political Studies, and CDR Radio, The PATH® presented the roundtable “The Ethics of Faith-Based Policy” on April 12. Dr. Mark Caleb Smith, director of Cedarville’s Center for Political Studies, explained, “This inaugural roundtable examined one way faith, politics, and public policy interact.” The evening’s focus on faith-based initiatives included presentations by Krista Rush Sisterhen, director of the Ohio Governor’s Office of Faith- Based and Community Initiatives; Dr. John Forren, assistant professor of political science at Miami (Ohio) University; Stephen Veltri, fellow at the Center for the Study of Democratic Citizenship at the University of Cincinnati; and David Zanotti, president of the Ohio Roundtable. Cedarville’s own Dr. Gerson Moreno-Riaño ’94, assistant professor of political science, served as moderator. The roundtable was the first of a series of symposia, lectures, and roundtable discussions planned at Cedarville University. The series is meant to highlight issues relevant to the expression of an intentionally biblical worldview in the political arena. The Ethics of Faith-Based Policy Not A Tame Author C.S. Lewis expert Dr. Bruce Edwards came to Cedarville University on April 11 to present the lecture “Not a Tame Author: Visiting C.S. Lewis’ Imaginative World.” Dr. Edwards spoke on Lewis’ place in contemporary culture and the December 2005 release of a motion picture based on Lewis’ novel The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe . He also shared insights regarding his time spent at Lewis’ home, The Kilns. An internationally respected C.S. Lewis scholar and teacher, Edwards has two books due out later this year on Lewis and on Lewis’ fictional land of Narnia. Edwards is a professor of English and associate dean for distance education and international programs at Bowling Green State University. Co-sponsors included Business Reform magazine, Selling Among Wolves, The Gathering, CDR Radio, The Path®, The Word 880 AM (WRFD), and The Christian Blue Pages. Joe Johnson, founder and president of Business Reform magazine, and Dr. Bill Brown, president of Cedarville University, spoke on topics like worldview and taking back the gates of commerce. Breakout sessions on biblical team building, income tax, and ethics gave the 200 participants more tips on how to integrate their faith with their work. Business Forum Makes Sense of the Marketplace
