10 Summer 2007 Inspire 11 Athletic Training — Hannah Haynes A senior athletic training major from Claremont, New Hampshire, Hannah serves on the Student Academic Advisory Board and plans to pursue graduate studies in athletic training. “Thank you, alumni, for providing this scholarship for me. It is a huge help and encouragement. Thank you for your generosity to the students!” Biblical Education — Mark Miller Mark is a junior from Chesterland, Ohio majoring in preseminary Bible and philosophy. He is involved with the debate team, Tau Delta Kappa (an honors organization), and the Wright State University evangelism team. After college, he plans to attend seminary and become involved in full-time ministry. “Thank you for your support of God’s work at Cedarville. Your contributions are an immense blessing to me as I train at Cedarville in preparation for ministry. Thank you for sharing God’s blessings in your life and being a blessing to others in the process.” Business Administration — Robert Gole A senior majoring in finance, Robert came to Cedarville from Hyattstown, Maryland. He serves as treasurer of Delta Mu Delta and is also involved in intramural sports. Robert plans to attend graduate school to obtain his M.B.A. “Cedarville alumni, I am honored to be selected for this scholarship. I will strive to use all of my schooling to glorify God and to maintain the reputation of the University. Thank you for the concern and love that you show to students here at the ’Ville.” Communication Arts — David Peterson David, a senior electronic media major from Bradford, Pennsylvania, is involved at student radio station U99.5 and in the children’s ministry at a local church. In May, he was a member of the Bethesda Outreach MIS team. Next winter, he will begin an internship with Malone Advertising in Akron, Ohio. “I really appreciate the opportunity to receive this year’s alumni award, which was named in honor of Paul Gathany, former GM of CDR Radio. It was a blessing to have the chance to interact with such an amazing man who has done so much to further God’s kingdom through radio ministry.” Education — Hillary Simpson Hillary is a junior early childhood education major who makes the nearly one-hour commute to Cedarville each day from her hometown of Blanchester, Ohio. After she graduates, she hopes to earn her master’s degree and teach at a Christian school. “I would like to thank the alumni for being so gracious as to award me this scholarship. The scholarship means a great deal to my parents and me. Thank you so much for your investment in my life during this time of preparation for the service God is calling me to do.” Engineering — Christopher Byus A senior mechanical engineering major from Troy, Missouri, Chris is involved in the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and Students for Life. He was recently married and plans to work in the automotive industry after graduation. “I am extremely grateful for all of the contributions from Cedarville alumni that have funded this award. I got married recently and, as you can imagine, money is tight for the upcoming year. This scholarship will help to provide for my wife and me.” Exercise and Sport Science — Ryan Short A member of the men’s basketball team and a staff writer for Cedars , Ryan plans to apply to medical school. This senior exercise science major is from Springfield, Ohio. “Being awarded the Alumni Scholarship is a great honor and responsibility. It is challenging to think that people who not too long ago were students just like me care enough to give their own money so that current students can fulfill their educational goals. The generous alumni who make these scholarships possible exemplify brotherhood and sisterhood within the body of Christ and within the Cedarville family.” Language and Literature — Claire Kaemmerling A senior English major from Fort Worth, Texas, Claire is involved in the Icarus Collective (a poetry organization) and the Language and Literature Student Advisory Board. She also serves as advertising manager for Cedars . After graduation, she plans to pursue a graduate degree in creative writing and teach at the college level while pursuing a freelance career. “I am so very grateful to all of the alumni for making this scholarship possible. This award has encouraged me as I press on in my studies. Thank you for your generosity and the investment you make in Cedarville University students.” Music and Art — Matthew Ross Miller Matt, a senior majoring in music and preseminary Bible, is involved in brass choir and symphonic Band. The West Chester, Ohio native plans to attend seminary after graduation. “I would like to thank the alumni for this scholarship. I appreciate your willingness to help students pay for school.” Nursing — Xiaoying Ma Xiaoying is a senior nursing student, originally from China but with an adopted hometown of Columbus, Ohio. She volunteers at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield and is considering pursuing her master’s degree after she becomes a registered nurse. “I want to say thank you to the alumni, and especially Dr. Alyn, for awarding me with this scholarship. I appreciate your commitment to Cedarville and your dedication to the students. Thank you again for the encouragement this award has been to me.” Psychology — Kati Yosinski A senior psychology major from Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kati is a member of the Student Academic Advisory Board, mentors at the Greene County Residential Treatment Center, and participates in an after-school ministry for junior-high girls. Kati is getting married next year and plans to pursue her master’s degree (and possibly doctorate) in counseling. “I’d like to use this opportunity to thank the alumni who generously provided this scholarship. Your selflessness and your dedication to Cedarville University are greatly appreciated and have encouraged me in my own pursuit of God’s glory via psychological studies.” Science and Mathematics — Kevin Gulley A senior biology major from Wheelersburg, Ohio, Kevin is involved in Delta Omega Epsilon, Cedarville Ambassadors, and the Wilmington Hispanic Outreach. During his sophomore year, he participated in the New Orleans hurricane relief trip. After graduation, he plans to attend medical school. “Thanks to all of the alumni who are willing to invest in the lives of current Cedarville students. I am so grateful for your support and encouragement, and for helping me to continue my education here at Cedarville.” Social Sciences and History — Karen Williams Karen, a senior international studies and political science major from Midlothian, Virginia, is a member of the varsity forensics speech team, participates in Model United Nations, and is a tutor at the Writing Center. After graduation, she plans to work overseas with a Christian nonprofit organization. Her desire is to work with a Muslim community somewhere in Africa or the Middle East. “Thank you so much, alumni, for providing this scholarship. I greatly appreciate your encouragement and support. Thank you for your investment!” Justin Dodson Justin, a senior preseminary Bible major from Hadley, Pennsylvania, is involved in several ministries and organizations, including Theta Ro Epsilon (a men’s service and accountability organization) and SGA. After graduation, he plans to attend Dallas Theological Seminary and feels the Lord leading him to the mission field. “I just want to say thank you so much for being faithful in giving toward this scholarship, as it has been a huge blessing in looking at next year. I know without a doubt that you give because you care, and I know that God will honor that in your life as well as mine. May we praise God together for blessing us through His hand of provision. And thank you for being faithful to Him so that we may all benefit, and so that He can get the praise!” Craig Houser Youth ministry and Christian education major Craig Houser will serve as the 2007-08 SGA chaplain. The senior, a native of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, has been involved at Dayton Avenue Baptist Church as well as the Dayton Gospel Mission. He plans to attend seminary after graduation. “Thank you so much, Cedarville alumni, for graciously providing me with this scholarship! I praise God for His provision and how much of an encouragement you have been. Thanks again for your support and continuous passion for helping Cedarville students.” Charles “Pete” Kraus A senior preseminary Bible major from Gahanna, Ohio, Pete is a member of the Cedarville University baseball team. He plans to attend Southern Seminary after graduation next spring. “I want to say thank you to the alumni for giving money so that I could receive this scholarship. This scholarship truly is a blessing to my family and me. Thank you again for helping me continue my education at Cedarville.” Jonathan Lawler Jonathan is a senior majoring in preseminary Bible and psychology. He has been actively involved at Northside Baptist Church in Lebanon, Ohio since arriving at Cedarville from his hometown of Indianapolis. After graduation, he plans to attend seminary to pursue either a master’s in counseling or a master of divinity degree. “I want to take a moment to express my appreciation for the many alumni who have given to Cedarville as they were able. Your generosity will greatly benefit me in reducing the cost of education, which in turn will make it possible to better cover the cost of continued education at seminary. May God bless you just as He has blessed me through your gift.” James McClenahan James is a senior preseminary Bible major from Newton, Kansas. He serves as a team leader for The Master’s Puppets and, after graduation, hopes to be part of Cedarville’s ERAP team for teaching in China. He would like to become a high school Bible teacher. “This award was such a blessing to me, and is another testimony to God’s faithfulness in providing my needs for college. I sincerely appreciate this gift, as an expression of the generosity of past alumni who are still committed to the ministry of Cedarville University. Thank you so much!” Adam Sheldon A native of Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, Adam is a senior majoring in youth ministries and Christian education. After college, he would like to pursue graduate studies in Christian education. “It is indeed an honor to receive this award from alumni. Thank you for all that you do for us students here at Cedarville. The award has encouraged me to keep working hard to develop skills for ministry so that God’s kingdom can be furthered.” Jason Zastrow A senior preseminary Bible major, Jason participates in the Intercollegiate Council, Amplified, and the Jeremiah Project. The native of Miamisburg, Ohio plans to attend Dallas Theological Seminary to study Bible translation and become a missionary to areas without the gospel. “Thank you so much for the honor of being named a John W. Bickett Scholarship recipient. I would like to thank the Cedarville University alumni, faculty, and staff for your recognition of this reward. Honorary Scholarship The Class of 2007 introduced a financial aid award as its class gift. The “Class of 2007 — Jonathan Taylor (J.T.) Honorary Scholarship” is in honor of Jonathan Taylor ’07, who suffered a heart attack in the fall and is now in a minimally conscious state. The seniors and their parents have raised more than $35,000 for this endowed, student-initiated award. The scholarship will be presented to Cedarville students who exhibit excellence and spiritual maturity in their leadership, service, and academics.
