26 Summer 2007 Inspire 27 Dave ’93 and Ruth Bartholomew Kimmel ’93 were appointed by Baptist Mid-Missions on July 27, 2006, to serve as missionaries. God has called them to northwest Romania to join the church-planting team. They will be focused on evangelism, discipleship, and outreach support. Dave, Ruth, Celeste (6), and Amber (4) live in West Chester, Ohio. Tracy Quinn Woodward ’93 and her husband, Doug, are moving in July from Indianapolis, Indiana to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where both will teach at the International School of Kuala Lumpur. Tracy will teach high school English and Doug will teach middle school technology. They have three children: Reeve (5), Gabi (3), and Rania (1). Paul ’94 and Lynda Gavitt Armour ’96 announce the birth and adoption of Caleb Andrew. He was born December 29, 2005, and came home to stay on January 2, 2006. “Caleb” means “faithful,” and he is truly a daily reminder of God’s faithfulness to them. Paul works for Delphi Corporation in Rochester, New York and is pursuing a master’s degree in engineering management science from the University of Dayton. Lynda works part-time from home for the University of Rochester and enjoys taking care of Caleb. Susan Clark ’94 announces the publication of her young adult novel, And the Violin Cried . Nicki Silvera Freeman ’94 and her husband, Guy, announce the birth of Chloe Dyana Mae on July 7, 2006. She is adored by her two older brothers, Kaleb and Jensen. The family faithfully serves the Lord in Toronto, where they recently were reminded that God is the God of miracles, due to the salvation of some contacts. Joe ’94 and Melanie Dawson Lausin ’95 announce the birth of Timothy John. He was born June 18, 2006, and joins siblings Benjamin (6), Suzanna (4), and Elizabeth (2). Joe is self-employed, and Melanie enjoys staying home with the children in Thompson, Ohio. Chris ’94 and Melissa Davis Robertson ’94 announce the birth of Rachel Joy on August 14, 2006. Her siblings, Caitlyn (5) and Micah (2), welcomed her home in Wauseon, Ohio. Chris is a systems analyst at Sauder Woodworking, and Melissa enjoys staying at home with the children. Tina Mulanax Wessel ’94 and her husband, Keith, announce the birth of Katelyn Rae on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006. She was welcomed home by her big brother, Jake Hunter (2). They reside in Canton, Ohio, where Keith is a construction job superintendent, and Tina is a stay-at-home mom. Brad ’95 and Jill Aumsbaugh Graham ’96 announce the birth of Brady Thomas on March 4, 2006. Big brother Carson (3) welcomed him home in Columbus, Ohio. Brad is vice president of investments at A.G. Edwards, and Jill enjoys staying at home with the boys. Jennifer Kierstead ’95 was recently named elementary principal at a school in Brazil. She has been a teacher at the school for eight years and was overwhelmed at the support she has received in this new position. Phillip ’95 and Melissa Mocny Snyder ’96 announce the birth of Emily Melissa on May 16, 2006. Big brother Nicholas (4) welcomed her home in Rochester, New York. Phillip is operations manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Melissa enjoys staying at home with the children. Jenna Coakley Hardy ’96 and her husband, Scot, announce the birth of Chloe Phyllis on January 10, 2006. Jenna stays home with Chloe and her brother Sawyer (4) while Scot works for Forest Pharmaceuticals. They reside in Manchester, New Hampshire and are active members of Crossway Christian Church. Peter Fiveland ’96 and Joan Warner were married on May 27, 2006, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Several Cedarville alumni were in attendance, including best man Eric Fiveland ’99 , Brian ’96 and Emily Williams Spencer ’97 , and Phil Boggs ’97 . Peter and Joan now live in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Peter works for WMCA 570 & 970 radio, and Joan works in the development office at Goodwill Rescue Mission in Newark, New Jersey. Chris Rayder ’96 recently recorded his debut album, Even in Shadow . He is scheduling an upcoming national tour of churches, schools, and prisons and is excited to see how Jesus Christ will use this album and tour solely for His honor and glory. alumnotes alumnotes 1950s Sam ’56 and Ellen Smith Hornbrook ’56 share that God has seen them through a challenging time in the Mexico church. They have needed and have sensed the faithful prayers of their friends. They are thankful for the dental outreach ministry and for the 15 new villages that have been reached with the gospel. Each of these villages has small congregations led by pastors who have received training through the Video Bible Institute. 1960s Irene Benson ’63 is on home assignment, staying with her mother in Portage, Indiana. She is encouraged by her faithful supporters and considers them important team members as Brazilians are reached for the Lord. Elaine Schulte ’68 serves the Lord with Bibles International in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She has completed her part in the revision process of the Sango Bible, a Bible originally published in 1966 for the people of the Central African Republic. 1970s Carl ’73 and Rebecca Osterhouf Holz ’75 will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary on September 16, 2007. They are both retired from the army and reside in Lakeland, Florida. Carl is a disabled veteran, the result of injuries sustained during his military career, which included nearly three years in Vietnam, three years in Germany, and decades in the U.S. Becky was awarded a prestigious Secretary of the Army’s Award. Carl has received the Silver Star, Bronze Star for valor, Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, and a total of 24 different medals and ribbons for service during war and peace, for valor and achievement, while enlisted and as a commissioned officer. They would like to hear from old friends (call 727-204-4483). Judy Johnson ’73 has achieved a lifetime dream by seeing her first book, A Week to Pray About It , published. After leaving a 14-year career in the library at Cedarville, she received her master’s degree in theological studies from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio in 1997. She is currently a freelance writer of educational materials and is working on her next book. Howard Wolff ’74 is battling cancer. Pray that he will be strong in his faith even when fear attacks him. Howie is a pastor in Tacoma, Washington. Sharon Hopkins Bowman ’77 is pleased to share that God is using No More Tears in Heaven to open discussions with young children about heaven. She wrote this book to comfort young hearts after losing a loved one. The gospel is presented in a simple way for four-year-olds to understand. It is her prayer that a copy of this book be in doctors’ offices, hospitals, and Ronald McDonald Houses all over the country. 1980s Shawn Taylor ’80 was the keynote speaker at the Midwest Summit on Adoption and Orphan Relief held in Lancaster, Ohio on April 21, 2007. The theme of the conference was “The Body of Christ Caring for the Orphans of the Nations.” Shawn is director of the International Adoption Clinic at Kentucky Children’s Hospital and is a general pediatrician. John “J.R.” Smith ’82 was recently chosen to serve on the school advisory board of the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC). HESC is the New York state guarantee agency for federal student loans, as well as the administrator of the state’s tuition assistance program. He is also the chairperson for Region II of the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association. Aaron ’85 and Anne Grosse Bowes ’87 were encouraged this past winter by some new families that visited their church in Germany. They pray that God will open more doors for ministry and will give them favorable opportunities to present the gospel. Their daughter, Hanna, will be an incoming freshman at Cedarville in the fall. Jane Romig Brooker ’86 has received her master of business administration degree from the University of Findlay. She is in her 10th year as a business education teacher at Penns Valley High School in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania. Her husband, Scott ’86 , is an independent insurance claims adjuster and is the track and cross country coach at Penns Valley. Their son, Judson, is a sophomore at Cedarville, and their son, Matthew, is a high school sophomore. They also have a nine-year-old foster daughter, Sydni. Nadine Terrill Hennesey ’87 expresses her joy over the building the House of Laughter orphanage in Kosovo has been given for the next three years. This will allow them to be centrally located and expand so they can reach further into the community. Nadine is so thankful that God moved in the hearts of government officials by giving them the idea to offer the building. Patrick Murphy ’87 is a consulting manager for the business consultants and accountants team of SolomonEdwardsGroup. SEG is a leading professional services firm that provides expertise in accounting and finance. Patrick works in the Philadelphia office. Dave ’87 and Val Hite Smallman ’85 share that their church in Bauru, Brazil celebrated its fifth anniversary in April. They are thankful for the faithful attendees and how God has allowed much to be accomplished for His glory. Please pray that the Lord would provide direction for Dave as he seeks out a new location for the church. Dave and Val feel blessed to have their children working beside them, loving the Lord, and not ashamed to serve God. Linda Lons Stallard ’87 and her husband, David, announce the birth of Devin on November 7, 2005. He was welcomed home by Derek (11) and Rachel (10) in Seville, Ohio. Dan Leitch ’88 received his doctorate in continuing education from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in August 2006. He is a special education teacher in the College of Education at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. His wife, Kathy Hardman Leitch ’88 , homeschools their daughter Kristi (12) and has started a business as a clown. Daughter Sarah (19) attends Covenant College, and son Matt (17) is in the honors program at Appalachian State University. 1990s Amy Robenolt ’90 and Michael Bowker were married February 24, 2006, in Hamilton, New Jersey. They enjoyed a winter honeymoon in the Poconos. Amy teaches third grade in the Greenwich Township School District, and Michael works for Simon & Schuster. The couple resides in Hamilton. Brian Smith ’90 has relocated to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he is the supply chain manager for Chevron Brazil. Brian and his wife, Michelle, have three children, Caleb (5), Benjamin (3), and Emily (1). The Smiths expect to be in Rio for four years. Kelly Fath ’91 recently taught a course on the Reformation at the Bible Institute in Moldova. He is very involved with an outreach program at his church in Romania called Missions Torch Europe. This program’s goal is for mission team members to visit one church in each of the counties in the country. Dennis Fuller ’91 and his wife, Michele, announce the adoption of Kara from China. God providentially worked out the circumstances so they were matched with a girl from the same orphanage as their first daughter. She was welcomed home by her sister Lia (3) and brother Zachary (9). Scott Jennings ’91 is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Lake Crystal in Minnesota. He recently changed ministries from Newark Community Church in California, where he served as a student ministries pastor for nearly five years. Scott and his wife, Kim, have four children, Seth (11), Luke (8), Anna (7), and Sara (5). Scott Latimer ’92 is the pastor of Fall Creek Friends Church in Hillsboro, Ohio. He was the keynote speaker for a Martin Luther King Jr. tribute at Wilmington College in January. Jeff ’93 and Kelsey Perkins Entner ’00 have a daughter, Annelise Ellen (1), who enjoys playing with her cousin, Grace Elliott (2). Grace is the daughter of Todd ’95 and Dawn Merritt Entner ’96 . Both families reside in Beijing, China. The proud grandparents are Jim ’61 and Esther Weiss Entner ’61 , Ralph ’72 and Marsha Edwards Perkins ’72 , and Fred and Fanny Merritt. Making Abstinence Education Happen Valerie Dell Huber ’80 M.Ed. ’07 is taking the lead on abstinence education. As executive director of the National Abstinence Education Association, Valerie reminds Congress that abstinence education should not be a political issue, but rather should be one that centers on the healthiest message for American children. Youth are listening, she notes, but they need adults to continue the abstinence initiative in Congress.
