Wes gained the best of both worlds when he launched his career as an athletic trainer in a public high school, where he ministers to youth every day. Wes works as the only full-time athletic trainer at Shawnee High School in Springfield, Ohio. He works with athletes to prevent, provide primary care for, and alleviate injuries through physical therapy. Unlike most high school teachers, Wes’ connection with student-athletes continues throughout their four years of play. The relationships he builds with students in that time can provide a positive influence in their lives. Wes also ministers to Cedarville students, supervising two or three athletic training interns every year as they earn clinical hours in contact sports. Working with Christian college students gives Wes a natural avenue to talk with his students about his faith. “Working with Cedarville students not only helps my ministry at Shawnee,” he said, “but also provides my students with a great standard of care.” Wes and his wife, Michele, live in Springfield, Ohio, with their son, Macgyver. As an athletic trainer, Wes Stephens ‘03 builds relationships with both student-athletes and future athletic trainers. “Unlike most high school teachers, Wes’ connection with student- athletes continues throughout their four years of play.” If you would like to contact a friend highlighted in this section, please email us at alumni@cedarville.edu.
