Fifth Third Leads Corporate Sponsors for 2012 Golf Open On May 29, 2012, 172 golfers participated in the Cedarville Scholarship Golf Open, raising more than $84,000 for student scholarships. Thank you to all the players and sponsors who made this a successful day. We especially want to thank Fifth Third Bank for stepping up as our presenting sponsor this year. As a strategic partner and supporter, Fifth Third teamed up with the University to launch the cedarville1card. The card functions as a student ID card but can be used on and off campus as a debit card. Nearly 600 students took advantage of this feature by connecting their student ID card to a Fifth Third bank account. Mark Biddinger ’91, director of accounting services at Cedarville, worked with Fifth Third to get the program rolling. “They have gone above and beyond to serve the University and our students,” he said. “The cedarville1card is a free service to the students; they get a checking account, access to free ATM services, and the convenience of having to carry just one card. Within four years, we envision more than 75 percent of our students using the cedarville1card.” Another aspect of its partnership with Cedarville is the financial institution’s generous gift to the Health Sciences Center. Earlier this year the Fifth Third Foundation gave $100,000 from the Jacob G. Schmidlapp Trusts. “Even in difficult economic times, Fifth Third demonstrates a strong commitment to higher education and the students we serve,” said Bill Bigham, vice president for advancement.
