Inspire, Summer 2012
She was strong. She was invincible. She was woman! And she was asking you out on a date. Cedarville’s answer to “Sadie Hawkins Day,” TWIRP stands for “The Woman Is Responsible to Pay.” In recent years, TWIRP’s social cousin, the pick-a-date, has become popular for fun and inventive group dates. I was flattered when Alice invited me on a TWIRP date, and things started fine as we left Cedarville. Headlights from oncoming traffic, though, revealed the silhouette of a skunk in the road. In spite of me spiking the “air-brake,” we hit it, and the skunk’s pungent odor flooded her Ford . Not even Johnny Mathis’ crooning could save the ruined ambiance, but we still had a fun night. TIM BEACH ’88, RANDOLPH, NEW YORK I remember coming up with other things that TWIRP stood for like “This Week Is Really Pathetic.” KARL COOPER ’94, SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND My favorite TWIRP memory was when I took my big brother, Noel Hack ’86, to the Ice Capades and Noble Roman’s Pizza. KATHI (HARRIS) WALLACE ’87, MARYVILLE, ILLINOIS What is your best memory from TWIRP Week? 8 SUMMER 2012 overheard
