Inspire, Winter 1990

The 1990 Miracle is dedicated to Ed and Dorothy Spencer, whose combined years of service to Cedarville College number 55. Alumni remember Mr. Spencer's popular literature courses. Mrs. Spencer has been secretary to the vice president for business for 18 years. Both are known for their quick wit, congeniality, and concern for students. Jeff Joiner, a senior communication arts major, took top honors at Ball State University's 22nd annual forensics(speech)competition October 26-27. He trophied in three of the five required categories in the pentathlon competition: extemporaneous speaking (first place), persuasive speaking (first place), and rhetorical criticism (sixth place). His other presentations were in impromptu speaking and dramatic duo. One hundred seventy students from 15 midwestern colleges and universities competed in the event. Cedarville's team of 21 students was third in accumulated points. During 1989-90 competition, the team was first in the state of Ohio. Quips DeMaurice Smith '85: What was your most memorable experience at Cedarville College? I was national champion in track. That was memorable. I was student body president. That was memorable. I was the Bee. That was memorable. I met some of the greatest people in the world at Cedarville College. John Rooke '72: What are you doing during Homecoming 1990? We're taking tours of the campus and attending some classes with our teen- agers. Although it is their decision, we hope they will choose to attend Cedarville College. It is really exciting to see what has happend at the College in the last 15 years! Bobby Shomo '84: What was your most outstanding experience while you were at Cedarville? My first MIS trip to the Ivory Coast, Africa. I was a freshman, and it was my first Christmas away from home. We built a church building for the African people. It was neat to give a Christmas present like that. Sandy Entner '59: What do you think about Homecoming 1990? I don't want to miss a thing! Jay Benson '85: What is your most memorable experience at Cedarville College? Being inducted into CZ. The new members were kidnapped, blindfolded, and taken up in a small airplane. When we took off the blindfolds and looked out the windows, we saw the letters "CZ"ablaze in a field below. What a sight! Clancy Cruise '87: What are your thoughts on Homecoming 1990? This is a great opportunity to catch up on what friends are doing now and how their families are growing. 3 Winter'90
