Lew: At the very heart ofour mission is the belief that we must contribute to "advancing the kingdom"by preparing students to carry a Christ-like standard into the global workplace. We develop students in three crucial ways. First, their knowledge base: abilities, interests, desires,and career possibilities and options. Second,their networking skills: connecting them to alumni businesses and various other organizations. And third, their navigational skills: improving and enhancing them for a lifetime ofcareer adjustments and growth. INSPIRE: Why are alumni important to Career Services? Lew:The alumni are our hands and feet and our eyes and ears all over the world.They are the finger on the pulse of the global job market. Our ability to provide information to the students increases exponentially when we connect them with those who are affecting the world for Christ. Lew Gibbs, the new director ofCareer Services, is a 30-yearIBMer who brings experience and vision to the department. Patty Belliveau (right), the new assistant to the director, is a licensed social worker with a varied background, combining experience working with students as well as with the business community. Lori Phipps '96 is also new to the office and brings significant organizational and counseling skills to Career Services. CareerNet Alumni-Parent Network The Career Services Department believes that one of the most vital techniques in developing job search strategies is networking. Alumni and parents are vital sources forjob-related networking. Databases are being developed to provide geographical alumni-parent resources for full-time, part-time, and internship opportunities. Alumni are encouraged to be a liaison for Cedarville College students and other alumni in their place ofemployment, provide training via seminars on issues in the current workplace and act as links for students and other alumni to opportunities in their present geographies.
