60s CLASS NEWS Marvin Troyer '61N is coordinator of off-campus students for the Cedarville College Division of Student Services. 70s Buddy McNiece'73 is sales and marketing director for Advanced Document Services, a document management firm located in Austin, Texas. His wife, Linda (Newberry '74N), is a teller supervisor for Texas Heritage Bank. Sharon Franks Burgess'76 has completed a course of study at Hixson's School of Floral Design in Lakewood, Ohio. In March 1997,she had received a S500 scholarship to the school of her choice as the first place award in a citywide floral design competition. Sharon is currently a floral designer at Mayfield Florist in Tucson, Arizona. She also designs jewelry. Sharon and her husband, Duane, have three children. Duane has 20 years of communications experience and is seeking a new career track. Lisa McClure'79 has moved to Akron, Ohio from Spencer, West Virginia, where she was an admitting clerk at Roane General Hospital. She is currently enrolled in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of Akron. She has received a teaching assistant position while pursuing a master's degree in Spanish. From 1985 to 1996, Lisa was a missionary in Colombia, South America. 80s David Johnson '80 and his wife, Denise, have moved to Santa Clarita, California to take a position with Ciba Specialty Chemicals. Daniel Cawood '82 has been named vice president and relationship manager in the business banking division of Mellon Bank in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Dan and his family reside in Columbia, Pennsylvania. Mark Morley'82 is human resources manager for Wachter Electric in Kansas City, Missouri. He and his wife, Pam, have three children, Matthew (6), Michelle (5), and Morisse (2). Mike'82 and Elaine Riggs Smart'82 reside in New Carlisle, Ohio, where Mike is a high school teacher. In May 1997, their daughter Brittany finished second in the United States in the Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest, making 22 out of 25 free throws in the 11-year-old girls national competition. Chris Boudreau'84 has accepted a call from Creekside Church in Roseville, California. His responsibilities are to develop family friendly ministries, begin leadership development, and oversee small group ministries. Chris and his wife, Eleanor, served at Bethany Church in Long Beach, California for 11 years. The Boudreaus have two children, Joshua (6)and Kaitlyn (4). Mark Fisher '84 has moved from Glorieta Conference Center near Santa Fe, New Mexico to Forest Home Christian Conference Center in the San Bernardino Mountains of southern California. He serves as director of marketing for the family, teen, and junior high camps. Mark and his wife, Lori, have four children. Lori Hess Smejkal'85 and her husband, Jeff, have moved from Charlotte, North Carolina to Winston-Salem, South Carolina. The Smejkals have three children, Sam (7), Luke (5), and Jake (3). Lori is teaching first grade at Salem Baptist Christian School after being a stay-at-home mom for seven years. Jeff is a senior security analyst with U.S. Airways. Thurman'87 and Lisa Henry Payton '87 have two children, Drew(4)and Maggie(2). Since March 1997, Thurm has been associate pastor at Holt Baptist Church in Holt, Michigan. He is specifically involved in the areas of Christian education and small groups. Daniel Petek '87 is president of Castek Inc., an aluminum foundry in Elyria, Ohio. The company was started in 1993 when Daniel and his brother, Richard Petek '88, bought the former aluminum casting business of Larson Foundries where Dan worked for five years after his graduation from Cedarville. Castek was recently chosen to pour a monumental aluminum sculpture of Rodin's "The Thinker" for Bowling Green State University. In a newspaper interview, Dan testified, "The Lord has blessed this business. We will do 12 times as much business this year as we did in our first year. That's phenomenal growth! Our success is due to the Lord." Dan and his wife, Diane, live in Medina, Ohio. Cliff '88 and Patti Armstrong Fawcett'88 have lived in Newark, Delaware for four years. Cliff is a nurse practitioner for an orthopedic surgeon who is the team physician for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Flyers. Patti works part-time as a pediatric nurse at Christiana Hospital. The Fowcetts have two children, Andrew (5)and Benjamin (3)and attend Washington Baptist Church in Turnersville, New Jersey. Brent Lydic'89 has resigned from management at Sky Alland Marketing and is a credit counselor with NCCS in Columbia, Maryland. The career change will allow Brent to work full-time, while also attending Capital Bible Seminary full-time in pursuit of a master of divinity degree. He and his wife, Leann (Swann '92N), live in Highland, Maryland and attend Forcey Memorial Church. The lydics have two children, Jared (5)and Micah (1). 90s Brian R. Smith '90 has visited 47 countries since graduating from Cedarville! He worked as a chemist for Quanterra, Inc. for three years before taking a six-month sabbatical to travel through Europe, India, and Asia. He returned to Quanterra as a project manager, but resigned in October 1996. Brian then spent 10 months traveling through Central and South America. Brian currently attends the Indiana University School of Business, where he is majoring in international business and finance. Kelly Marsh '91 has joined the staff of Cedarville College as resident director of Maddox Hall. Shawn'92 and Shannon Proctor Mallison '92N have settled in Raleigh, North Carolina. Shawn is working in small business/commercial lending for a regional bank. The 1982 Australia MIS Team has relived their wonderful memories in not one, but two reunions,the most recent in June 1997.Twelve of the original team members returned to Cedarville for this 15-year reunion,organized and hosted by Bob Beikert '85. Bob was prompted to organize the reunion when he learned that the 1982 team leader, Kirby Lancaster '76, would be in the United States. Since 1983, Kirby has served as a pastor in an Australian church. The team gathered at the Beikerts' home on a Friday evening, then spent Saturday sharing memories at the College.The group enjoyed authentic Australian cuisine—"burger with the lot," a grilled hamburger topped with bacon,lettuce, tomato,fried eggs,and grilled pineapple! Lara McGovern'92 is assistant producer for "Family News in Focus," a production of Focus on the Family. She is happy to be using her broadcast journalism degree from Cedarville as she interviews, writes, and reports news stories daily. Lora lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Doug'92 and Jenny Morales Smith '93 have been serving at Heatherwood Baptist Church in Riverdale, Georgia for the past two years. Doug is the minister of youth, and Jenny cares for their daughter Emma(1)at home. Doug and Jenny enjoy working together as they minister to teenagers. Marsha Olsen '93 is a professor of English at the College of Mechanical Engineering and Automation in Loverseny, Hungary. Kevin '93 and Allison Knowles Parliament'93 are high school youth leaders at a church in Michigan. Kevin is a systems administrator for Excel Industries while pursuing a master of business administration degree. Allison teaches junior high and is working on a master's degree in school guidance and counseling. Tracy Quinn '93 taught high school English and speech in South Bend, Indiana for four years. She is currently teaching English as a second language to faculty and staff at Taiyuan University of Technology in the northern part of China. Michael Vrbanac'93 graduated from Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary last spring and was ordained as a Baptist minister on June 22, 1997. The ordination ceremony took place at Bible Baptist Church in Newark, Ohio. In August, Michael completed a four-week intensive course on teaching English as a second language. This will complement his ministry as a missionary pastor in Kyoto, Japan, which began August 31. Brian '94 and Janet Chezik Megilligan '94 have moved to Akron, Ohio, where Brian has joined the music staff at The Chapel as full-time staff arranger. He also assists in rehearsals and plays piano for Sunday services. Brian shares,"I'm very excited about my job, and Icon hardly wait to see how the Lord uses us here!" Melinda Rife '94 is an international distribution assistant with JAF Ministries (formerly known as Joni and Friends), serving with the "Wheels for the World" program. This year, she will travel to Romania to distribute wheelchairs and evangelize the disabled community of that country. Mindie attends the Church at Rocky Peak in Chatsworth, California and resides in Thousand Oaks. Brent'95 and Keila Whittaker Underwood '95 have settled in Williamsburg, Virginia. Brent has accepted a call as youth pastor at Williamsburg Community Chapel. Mark Button '96N is assistant to the director of audio services for CDR Radio at Cedarville College. Gary Carter '96 is resident director of Lawlor Hall at Cedarville College. Matt'96 and Jackie Call Gaffner'95N reside in Marion, Ohio where Matt is assistant pastor at Berean Baptist Church. David Heim '96 is in his first year of studies at Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania where he is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree. David spent last summer ministering in Lima, Peru with his missionary parents. Todd '96 and Lisa Miller Nielsen '96 have moved to Akron, Ohio to take a full-time ministry position at Manchester Trinity Chapel. Sara Radford '96 is an elementary teacher in a Christian school in West Virginia. Sara is engaged to Cedarville College student, Graig Austin, and anticipates a June 1998 wedding. Tricia Walker'96 is a reader services technical coordinator in the Cedarville College Centennial Library. David '97 and Joanna Hodson Butgereit'95 have moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where both are nurses at United Medical Center. Deborah Copeland Campbell'97 is the receptionist and office manager for the Cedarville College Career Services Office. She and her husband, Chris'97N,live in Springfield, Ohio. Jeff Davis'97 works for Anderson Consulting and resides in Northville, Michigan. Krystee Gehman LeBlanc'97 has joined the staff of Cedarville College as donor relations assistant in the Annual Fund Office. Krystee's husband, Kirk, is a student at the College. John Maskill'97 is pursuing a medical degree at Wayne State University. He resides in Northville, Michigan. Chad McFadden'97 is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. Ben Miller'97 is attending Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania where he is pursuing a Master of Theology degree. James Patten '97 is in his first year of studies at Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania where he is pursuing a Master of Divinity degree. Ivy Schlesener '97 is an emergency department nurse at Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia, Ohio. She lives in Cedarville. Matthew Sherwood'97 is a teaching assistant at Texas A & M University, where he is pursuing a master's degree in English.
