Jennifer Sloan Tabor'95 and her husband, Eric, announce the birth of Ryan Eric on May 17, 1998.The family resides in Crossville, Tennessee. David Mullins'96 and his wife, Crystal, announce the birth of Elisabeth Joy on July 17, 1998. David ministers at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Smithville, Ohio. Focus ON THE FIELD Dennis Bellew '65 and his wife, Frances, are missionaries in the Virgin Islands with Baptist International Missions, Inc.(BIMI). They praise God for his protection during Hurricane Georges in September. Although there was minor damage to buildings and vegetation, there were no serious injuries. This is the seventh hurricane they have experienced since 1979! Mark'67 and Beth Ziegler Trimble'67 recently celebrated 30 years of marriage and 30 years of ministry. They were married August 9, 1968 in Wellington, Ohio. Two weeks after their wedding, Mark was ordained by his home church in Wisconsin. Since 1974, the Trimbles have worked in church-planting, camp, and seminary ministries in Brazil. Mark and Beth share in a recent prayer letter,"We give all praise to our great God, whose grace stooped low enough to change the likes of us into His children and His servants." Edie Phillips Sartor'70 and her husband, Tom, are missionaries in Bangladesh. They returned to the United States in September 1998 for furlough. They are living in Detroit, Michigan. Marty Cox Stringfield '70 and her husband, Larry, are missionaries to Kenya with Baptist Bible Fellowship. Marty previously served in Ghana, West Africa with Baptist Mid-Missions. She now enjoys four stepchildren and two grandchildren from her 1990 marriage to Larry, whose wife passed away in Kenya. Patty Neely Zemmer'76N and her husband, Dave, have moved into the missionary house of Washington Heights Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio. They will live there during the remainder of their furlough from ministry in Brazil. After taking an upper level biblical counseling course, Dave is completing supervised counseling and requirements for certification at Clearkcreek Chapel in Springboro, Ohio. Patty is also training in biblical counseling. Dave'79 and Becky Stewart Drozek '83 have begun Spanish language study in Costa Rica. They are preparing for a medical ministry in Honduras. Kent Craig'80 and his wife, Kelly, are missionaries in the Philippines. In September,they enjoyed a visit from Barb Beikert Wyer'77, Beth Beikert Stoner '82,Bob Beikert'80,and Bonnie Beikert Vickman '83, whose parents also ministered in the Philippines. The Craigs have two daughters: Kari(8)and Kandace(5). Calvin Clark '81 and his wife, Carol, are church-planting missionaries in Brazil. They have three children, Jacqueline(9), Nicholas(7), and Breanna (4). Lynn Sherman Osden'83 and her husband, Al, are awaiting visa approval to enter Brazil as church planters under Berean Mission. Their children will attend Wycliffe Missionary School while Al and Lynn are in Portuguese language school. The Osdens share,"We praise the Lord for years of preparation in both education and practical ministry experience." Lynn has been an elementary teacher and homemaker, and Al, who served as a youth pastor from 1989 to 1997, is an engineer. Aaron'85 and Annegret Grosse Bowes'87N have moved to East Berlin to begin a church-planting work.They serve with Evangelical Baptist Missions. Pete Wright'86 and his wife, Sonya, are on deputation to raise support for ministry in Chile. Rejoicing in God's strength, they write,"In June, the Lord used a kindergarten Sunday school class...to provide a special offering which covered the exact cost of the luggage[needed to carry their display board]. God's strength was made perfect in His provision for us." David Beverly'87 and his wife, Loralee, are new missionaries with Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE).They are preparing for church planting and leadership development in the Philippines. The Beverlys have three children: twins Rachel and Nicole(5), and David (4). David '87 and Valerie Hite Smallman'85 are preparing for ministry with ABWE in Brazil. They have two sons: Adam (7), and Ryan (4). Lynell Smith'88 is a church-planting assistant in children's youth, and ladies' ministries in Brazil. She is on furlough in the United States and will return to Brazil in January 1999. Terri Lynn VanBeveren'88 has traveled in South America to do consulting work in schools that have educational therapy programs for missionaries' children with learning difficulties. During the three-week trip, she visited four schools in three countries: Venezuela, Columbia, and Ecuador. Through a unique partnership of The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM)and the National Institute for Learning Disabilities(NILD), Terri Lynn is a career missionary at Christiansen Academy in Venezuela. Robert Smith, Sr.'89 and his wife, Betty, joined BIMI in June 1990. After serving 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, Robert believed God was calling him to missions. For the last 10 years, the Smiths have filled in for missionaries who need to return to the United States for furlough. We pray for Cedarville often and recommend the school as often as we have the chance." They have two children who graduated from Cedarville College, Robert Smith, Jr.'83 and Rebecca Smith Martin '90. Nancy Merkh Loose'90 and her husband, Don, are new missionaries with ABWE.They are preparing for ministry in South America. Nancy shares in her testimony,"Opportunities for growth at Cedarville College helped me to depend upon God, and learn to 'Set(my)mind on things above, not on earthly things.'(Col. 3:2)." Lorena Finley '95 has committed to one year of missionary service in Romania.She is teaching English at a Christian kindergarten. Lorena previously taught sixth grade for two years in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Kristi Nordaas'95 is teaching English in Divnagorsk, Russia with SEND International. Jennifer Kierstead '95 teaches missionary children and Brazilians at Pan American Christian Academy in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She also helps with the girl's softball team and leads a discipleship group for six high school girls. IN MEMORY OF Mary Ford McIntire'35 passed away in July 1998 at the age of 84. She was a retired elementary teacher, having taught at the Greene County Children's Home(Ohio)from 1933-38 and in the Xenia City Schools from 1950-73. We offer our condolences to her brother, Charles Ford '42 of Lebanon, Ohio, and other family members. Clyde Walker'39 passed away August 12, 1998 at the age of 81. Before moving to Florida in 1976, he was a basketball, baseball, and track coach, teacher, and administrator at schools in Carlisle, Cedarville, and Kettering, Ohio. We offer our sympathy to his wife, Janette, in Bradenton, Florida. Irene Goodin '40 passed away in September 1998.She was a resident of Sabina, Ohio. Charles Moore '51 passed away August 12, 1998 at the age of 71. He was ordained to the ministry in 1951 and pastored churches in Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and North Carolina. He also served as a missionary in Liberia, West Africa. We offer our condolences to his wife of 52 years, Mary Jo, in Struthers, Ohio. John Abuhl'58 passed away in August 1998 of an aneurism. John and his wife, Betty, had just retired from missionary service in France with Evangelical Baptist Mission. We offer our sympathy to his wife and five children. Stephen Wetzel'84 passed away September 22, 1998 at the age of 36. He practiced international trade with Marubeni Corporation in New York City. We offer our condolences to his parents, Dr. Dan and Phyllis Wetzel, and siblings, Danette Kienstra '80,Paul Wetzel'92N,and Mary Martindale. Dr. Dan Wetzel is the dean of the School of Engineering, Nursing and Science at Cedarville College.
