Inspire, Winter 2000

4 Winter 2000 What’s Abuz z z z z z z z z President’s Pen T hey are everywhere! Cedarville women— Cedarville grads serving our Lord. Most every Sunday they are in a church where I am preaching. Often I eat Sunday dinner with them and their families. Last year two of our single ladies asked me to join them after the service for a meal at the Olive Garden. I had a tough time convincing them that it was okay for me to pick up the check. Finally, they were convinced after I reminded them how much they had paid Cedarville in four years of tuition. By the way, I have a deal with students, that if they are in a restaurant when Mrs. Dixon and I are there, we will pay for their meal. Young’s doesn’t count! Sorry, alumni not included. J God has sent us so many special women at Cedarville University. Fifty- four percent of our student body are women. Bright, articulate, creative, lovely, godly ladies have chosen to be a part of Cedarville over the years. Often, after chapel, a couple of these caring young women will come up and say, “You look tired! How about a hug!” They make my day. Cedarville women do care. That is why they make such terrific servants in their multi- faceted ministries. Women are involved on all our travel teams, except the Kingsmen Quartet. J They are on community ministry teams, they spend their summers on Missions Involvement Services (MIS), and they have a dynamite prayer group on campus called Prayer Force, which motivated our committed men to start their own prayer group called Elijah’s Fire. A student sent me an e-mail this fall with the following account: Last May while returning with my youth group ministry team from my church in Hillard, I called a Columbus radio station to request a song. I mentioned to the radio DJ that I was on my way back to Cedarville. It turned out that the DJ knew an alumnus of Cedarville who went to my church before moving to Las Vegas. I invited the DJ to church for the upcoming Sunday. To my surprise, the DJ did come that Sunday and accepted Christ in July! He is getting married to a woman he met at my church in January! I think it is so neat how God uses you when you least expect it. Our grads take this spirit of volunteerism and service into their churches and their communities. Some of our women are full-time homemakers. Others are professional women who minister to their families, as well as in their world of education, business, medicine, law, etc. How I thank the Lord for such women. In a culture where many women have as their agenda the right of a woman to have an abortion and radical feminism, we have Cedarville graduates who are pro-God, pro-life, and pro-biblical womanhood. Thank you, ladies, for all your ministry for our Lord. We are proud to have you as Cedarville alumnae. Dr. Paul Dixon ’94H President University Recognized by U.S. News & World Report The editors of U.S. News & World Report have ranked Cedarville University in the top tier of midwestern liberal arts colleges. Factors in the magazine’s evaluations included retention and graduation rates, admissions selectivity, and student/faculty ratio. The annual rankings appear in the magazine’s September 11 issue and were compiled while the institution was still known as Cedarville College. “We are pleased with this recognition of the University’s value and quality of programs,” said Cedarville University President Paul Dixon, “especially as the rankings were disclosed on the very day we became known as a university. Our mission is to offer an education consistent with biblical truth. We continue to strive to offer excellent academics coupled with an unambiguous character development effort in a spiritually dynamic environment.” He added, “It is this combination that makes a Cedarville education distinctive.”
