Three Students With the Lord Separate car accidents took the lives of three Cedarville University students in a two-month time span. Jonathan Leach Jonathan Leach died in a two-car accident on August 31 near his home in Seaford, Delaware. Also in the car were Cedarville students Andrea Dufour (Jonathan’s fiancée) and Lauren Kenworthy, both of whom survived. Jonathan, a senior double-majoring in finance and business education, worked at Young’s Dairy and was active at Victory Baptist Church in Springfield. He played trumpet in the Yellow Jacket Pep Band and loved participating in intramural sports as a player and as a referee. Back home he coached youth soccer, and on the afternoon of the accident had practiced with his father’s team at the Christian high school he attended. Jonathan’s family includes many Cedarville alumni, such as his mother Eunice (Anderson) ’67 and brother Gary ’97. Jonathan’s parents, Gary and Eunice, would like to thank everyone for their prayers, cards, and support. Memorial contributions may be made to Jonathan’s high school, Seaford Christian Academy, at 110 Holly St., Seaford, DE 19973. Jared Applegate Jared Applegate died in a one-car accident about two miles from his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan on September 2. A senior double-majoring in accounting and finance, Jared was a member of Kappa Epsilon Alpha (KEA), a business student organization which promotes free enterprise. Jared was also active in Open Heirs, an evangelism ministry. Jared attended Calvary Church in Grand Rapids and shared Christ with friends back home each summer. He was known around campus as an avid rollerblader who would frequently rollerblade to Xenia and back. Jared’s parents and family appreciate the prayers, e-mail messages, and cards they received from Cedarville University students and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to Cedarville University’s Open Heirs ministry, care of Cedarville University, Community Ministries, John Wambold, 251 N. Main St., Cedarville, OH 45314. Jeff Haynes Jeff Haynes died on October 15 from injuries sustained in a single-car accident in Fairborn, Ohio on October 4. Jeff, a senior computer science major, was taking the fall quarter off to build up his finances for college and was planning to complete his remaining six courses in the winter and spring quarters. While his job at the Dave Dennis car dealership kept him busy, he enjoyed playing golf, eating out, and spending time with his family and friends whenever possible. Jeff was looking forward to a February 15, 2001 wedding to Amanda McDonald, daughter of Ed and Deb McDonald of Cedarville. Memorial contributions may be made to Cedarville University, Dave Bartlett, 251 N. Main St., Cedarville, OH 45314 We join the family and friends of Jonathan, Jared, and Jeff in grieving the loss of these young men, but rejoice in the knowledge that all three are home with Christ. 6 Winter 2000
