Bridging the Gap Many of our alumni and friends influence the lives of Cedarville students through gifts to the Annual Fund. As a result of this giving, our students do not pay the full cost of their tuition. The Annual Fund bridges the gap between what our students pay and what it truly costs Cedarville to provide their education. To help show our appreciation to those committed to offering our students an education based on biblical truth, we have established four recognition programs. Through these clubs, we acknowledge this commitment and offer a variety of benefits. Torch Club $100+ per year Charter Society $500+ per year President’s Associates $1,000+ per year Chairman’s Council $5,000+ per year Special Offer for 1995-2001 Graduates If you commit to give $500, we will include you in the President’s Associate membership for one year. Clearly, “character does count,” and employer after employer return to Cedarville’s Career Link Days because they know the kind of person they’re going to get when they hire a Cedarville student. Plato suggested that “truth, justice, courage, and temperance” were the virtues of character that counted the most. Clearly employers, at the very least, are looking for employees that “don’t lie, cheat and steal (or date those who do!).” What better place than Cedarville to develop people who concentrate on whatever things are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8) and live out their life ministries accordingly. Contact the career services office if you either have an employment need or wish to relate another “character counts” story. Worried about having sufficient retirement income? 3. Worried about paying for your children’s education? Do you want to… 1. Reduce your taxes? 2. Create guaranteed retirement or educational income beginning at a specific date? 3. Help CU students? A flexible deferred gift annuity is an exciting gift opportunity for younger alumni who want to help Cedarville University and create income for their lifetime. With this option, alumni can make gifts to Cedarville, receive significant, immediate tax deductions, and provide for their family’s future with retirement or educational income. A flexible deferred gift annuity works especially well for people between the ages of 25 and 60 because their payout rate increases with each year they choose to defer income. Individuals commonly choose to defer income until retirement when they need the additional money and are in a lower income tax bracket. Parents also frequently choose to use the future income for their children’s educational expenses. Although their income stream from Cedarville begins later, donors receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction, typically 45 to 65 percent the amount of the donation. For example, if a 40-year-old alumna makes a $5,000 gift through a deferred gift annuity, she can receive a 26.4 percent payout, or $1,320 per year, from Cedarville beginning at age 65. This income will continue throughout her lifetime. She also receives a charitable income tax deduction of $3,091, which she can use in the year she makes the gift or carry over for five additional years. Additionally, if she uses appreciated assets such as securities, she can realize a savings on her capital gains taxes. For more information about a deferred gift annuity or other life income gifts, please contact Dave or Kim in the gift planning office. We will provide a personal financial analysis of life income gift options, and, of course, there is no obligation.
