Alumnotes 60s Jeannie Lockerbie Stephenson '61 and her husband, Wally, are ministering in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal from January to March 2007. They were privileged to conduct many seminars and work with children in Mongolia in June 2006. Robert Reynolds'64 was recently invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City. He is a bass singer with the Houston Symphony Chorus (Texas). The combined voices, accompanied by the New York Symphony Orchestra, presented Brahms' Nanie, Op. 82and Schicksalslied, Op. 54. Robert and his family reside in Houston, Texas. Dennis Bellew '65 and his wife, Frances, have clearly seen the need for missions work in the United States, especially in the Northeast. They have accepted the opportunity to broaden their ministry by taking the position of Northeast representative for Baptist International Missions, Inc. They are thankful that God has allowed them to serve for 35 years and feel blessed that they can now use their experience to further continue His work. Joan Carter Stephens'65 does not have lung cancer, as we published in the Fall 2006 edition of Inspire. She has finished the first round of chemotherapy for a rare form of cancer that originated in her side and has reappeared in her lung. Her prognosis is good. Gary Holtz'67 and his wife, Betty, are pleased to be a part of Campus Bible Fellowship in Ohio. They are thankful that God answered their prayer and brought them a new team member, Joe Holloway '68. Joe has been a huge help since Gary travels so much. In September 2006, Gary and a fellow missionary had the privilege to help churches in Papua New Guinea develop a college campus ministry. Joe Holloway'68 shares that his wife, Sharon (Tallman)'68, went home to be with the Lord on May 3, 2006. He is thankful for God's perfect timing and the way He has sustained him during this difficult time. Joe has been encouraged and thankful with his new work with Gary Holtz'67 at Campus Bible Fellowship. Nancy Towle Jones'69 and her husband, Roy, continue to wait on the Lord regarding the opening of a ministry center in Coslada (Spain). They are so thankful for the group of faithful believers who continue to press on, despite the recent developments in Coslada. In June 2006 they were pleased to witness the ordination of their son, Keith. Keith and his family are ministering in Italy. Dan'69 and Carol Beerer Kinniburgh '69 share that their son, Jason, has accepted the position of nurse manager for the trauma surgical intensive care unit at the Mayo Clinic. He has been a staff nurse for several different departments at Mayo and is thrilled with this new position. 70s Edie Phillips Sartor '70 and her husband, Tom, continually seek God's guidance for the future of the language school and trade school in Bangladesh. Edie has spent time revising the phonetic drills used in the language school to help students hear and produce the new sounds they will encounter in Bengali. Last summer 28 Winter 2006 Edie had the privilege of helping two young students learn to read the language better. Sue Farley '71 looks forward to this summer when the elementary section will be completed on the new campus of International Christian School in Hong Kong. Pray for the Filipino Fellowship to become stronger. Linda Betts Duffield '72 has been adjusting to several changes in her life since the death of her husband. Change is never easy, but with God's help she is adjusting. She continues to serve by helping in various projects in Mexico. Carl Holz'73 has been included in the 2007 edition of the Who's Who in the World publication and the 2007 edition of Who's Who in America. His biographical sketch was,also included in the 2006 diamond anniversary 60tn edition of the Who's Who in America publication. Carl was honored in 2004 when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the South Florida Bible College and Theological Seminary. In the 21 years of this school's operation, he was the second person to be awarded this distinction. In August 2006, Carl received a plaque commemorating his second donation to the theological library. Carl is totally and permanently disabled as a result of wounds sustained in combat in Vietnam and that were exacerbated by his military career. He and his wife, Becky (Osterhout)'75, reside in Lakeland, Florida. Their son, James '02, is a prosecuting attorney. Sue Moore Livingood '73, her husband, and son have written PC Prayer Reminder and released it as a free software program. The program is available at www.pcpray.com. The catalyst behind the effort to produce a premier prayer reminder program for the PC and cell phone was the belief that a consistent prayer life is one of the biggest challenges for every Christian. Sue and her husband, Rick, reside in Tucson, Arizona. Sue is the conference coordinator for the Rocky Mountain Region of the Association of Christian Schools International. Rick is a computer consultant and professor of computer science. Paul Beck '76 and his wife, Becky, are enjoying their home assignment. They plan to return to the Philippines in July 2007. They are so thankful for their family and how God has blessed them all so much. Patty Neely Zemmer'76 and her husband, Dave, are thankful for a ministry team that came to Brazil last fall to help with some projects. The team was able to complete the sports court project. Patty and Dave hope this court will be a vital outreach tool to the neighborhoods in Brazil. Karen Price Hassell'79 shares that since graduation she has authored more than 45 books. She and her husband, Sanford, have two children, Shayla and Heath. Nancy Hall DeValve '81 and her husband, John, returned to Niger in August 2006 after thousands of miles of travel on the road and in the air during their home assignment. They enjoyed speaking engagements and visiting with supporters. Now that they are back in Niger, they are completing the printing of Bible story and Bible study texts they have translated. Ron Hobar'82 and his wife, Linda, share that Fellowship of Christian Athletes is considering relocation to the Memphis, Tennessee area. Pray with them about the decisions involved in this possibility. A Voice Lifted Up in Praise Laura Lee Lehto'83 had the opportunity last semester to record a song she had written eight years ago. Her church, Central Baptist of Fortaleza, Brazil, recorded its second CD, and the vocal director asked Laura if her song could be included. Laura shared, "Not only was the song used on the CD, but our vocal director also arranged for me to sing a solo and a duet with him and to record the background vocals." Laura's song,"Transforma-me"(Change Me), is part of the CD ABRIGO, which is translated "Shelter." Becki Payton Konuch '84 and her husband, Tim, seek direction from God for the specific area that ABWE-UK should plant the next church in Milton Keynes, England. This is a difficult decision to make based on availability, population, and other church group locations. They long for a British couple to partner with them. The family looks forward to their furlough in the spring. Merlin Miller '85 is an aid at Iowa Mennonite School. Merlin and his wife, Monica, live in Kalona, Iowa and are the parents of five children. They are also the owners of Jubilee Books and Gifts. Jewel Schroder Nordstrom '86 and her husband, Dwight, announce the arrival of Tiffany Joy. They live in Beijing, China, where Dwight sets up Great Commission companies and Jewel runs a media company. They continue to play basketball several times a week at a nearby university. Julie Stackhouse Moore'87 has written Election Day, a chapbook of poems published by Finishing Line Press. The book unearths the beauty and frailty in both the natural world and the landscape of pain. Negotiating the often blurred boundaries between visible and invisible realities, Julie's poems traverse the expanse between awe and uncertainty, perseverance and surrender, tough questions and even tougher answers. Lynell Smith '88 asks for prayer concerning the torn tendon in her right arm that may require surgery. She was thankful for the basketball ministries she was a part of last summer. James Pawelski'89 serves as director of education and senior scholar in the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania. His duties include developing and directing the master of applied positive psychology degree program (the world's first degree program in positive psychology), as well as investigating the philosophical underpinnings of the new science of positive psychology. His book, The Dynamic Individualism of William James, will be published in 2007 by SUNY Press. More information can be found at www.positivepsychology.org.
