DigitalCommons@Cedarville 2019-2020 Annual Report

2019-2020 ANNUAL REORT 13 Additional Highlights of 2019-2020 Once again, DigitalCommons@Cedarville’s event structure was utilized to facilitate the Research and Scholarship Symposium . Students and faculty submitted their proposals through the Digital Commons, and the review process built into the system was used by the organizing committee to evaluate each proposal. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Symposium was held virtually this year. A major project this year involved the digitization of the minutes of the Board of Trustees of Cedarville College from its organizational meetings in 1887 through 1955. The minutes from March 11, 1887 through February 23, 1931, are handwritten. To make these early minutes searchable, the Digital Commons staff transcribed them. There are now 12 academic programs archiving capstone projects in the Digital Commons. In conjunction with the Department of Communication’s Professional Writing and Information Design program, the Digital Commons launched a new interdisciplinary journal for undergraduate research by Cedarville students titled Channels: Where Disciplines Meet in the fall of 2016. We published just one issue this academic year due to the students needing to leave campus in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 39 articles that have been published so far have been downloaded over 26,000 times. A new journal, The Idea of an Essay , was added this year. These are exemplary essays in various genres selected by the faculty of the Department of English, Literature, andModern Languages. Cedrus Press published one book this year, Maestros of Ministry: Their Legacy in the Department of Music and Worship . Primarily authored by Dr. Sandra Yang, the co-authors are retired professor Dr. David Matson and student research assistant, Austin Doub.
