Is compassion the ultimate ruling of our nature? Or does our first instinct to be contemptuous plague our hearts over such things? The nature of humankind has endlessly been called into question with still no definite answer. Philosophers discuss the concepts of what it means to be good and evil, and theologians debate over the concepts’ origins. Whatever the case, people arrive at their own conclusions. Their answers can be influenced by their religions, cultures, atmospheres, and/or experiences. The play, Tartuffe , questions whom among the characters is the better human and who is more reputable. Which concept will win over all: hypocrisy or compassion? All humans have issues, challenges that we must face. And one must choose the option of how to go about them, whether with sincerity or deceit. To be truthful ... or be an imposter. — Samantha Sumler Guest Dramaturg There will be a 15 minute intermission. Expires Monday, April 15, 2013 Concessions will be available in the lobby during intermission. All proceeds are used to fund student wages and student events.
