1 l Alumnotes The60's R. Jane (Glnz 63N) Burke is now a part-time faculty member at Illinois Central College, a junior college in E. Peoria, Illinois. She is involved with both the reading and English departments. JamH Parker (64), Clarence Parker (74) , and their families plan to work together in establishing and developing Bible teaching churches among 500,000 Blacks in our nation's Capitol. Clarence and family hope to be on the field by October, 1980. The James and Clarence Parkers are missionaries under the Conservative Home Mission Society. A Commissioning Service was held at the Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Fairborn, Ohio, for Gary (67) and Betty Holtz, who are serving in the Campus Bible Fellowship ministry of Baptist Mid-Missions. The Holtzes have three children. Thomas Evans (69), teacher and coach at Trimble High School, Jacksonville, Ohio, led the baseball team to a new school record. They accumulated 20 wins, with only 5 losses. The 70's Richard Mitchen (70) was awarded the degree of M.A. in Business Administration May 16, 1980, from Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, Missouri. Phlllp Rohler (70) has joined the faculty of Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, in the Speech Communications Department. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Philip will be involved in coaching Bethel's intercollegiate forensic program, as well as serving as advisor for the campus radio station. Randall and Kathy (LeHer 71) Bloem are currently living in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where Randall is pastoring Scranton Revival Baptist Church. Kathy and Randall recently welcomed the third child into their family. Byron and Regina (Duell 71) Brooks and their two children, Gretchen and Erick, are involved in the ministry at Pennwood Bible Camp located near Galeton, Pennsylvania. The camp has a year– round program which includes winter retreats as well as a summer program. Ronald Coomba (71), who is employed by the Masonite Corporation of Dover, Ohio, was promoted to Personnel Manager of the Commercial Division. Dale Gelat (72N) was ordained by the Bethel Baptist Church, Delaware, Ohio, on December 14 and 15, 1979. Dale has been filling the pulpit at Bethel since August, 1979. He and wife Julle (Hoerath 71) and their four children live in Delaware. Jeanne (Harmon 72) Thomas has just finished 18 hours of graduate work in reading at The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. This will further qualify her to teach remedial reading at Maranatha Christian School in Columbus where she has been teaching for six years. Kim Gerber (73) is teaching science and physical education at Calumet Baptist School in Griffith, Indiana. He also coaches the Varsity basketball and soccer teams. Hal W. (73N) and Nancy King have moved to Bellefontaine, Ohio, where Hal is employed by Westinghouse. He is also attending Urbana College, majoring in accounting. The Kings have three sons: Douglas, Mark, and Andrew. Gay Wllllama (73) received her M.A. in Education from Indiana University-Purdue University, Inc., in January, 1980. She is currently teaching fifth grade at Heritage Christian School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Unden Kirby (74) is pastoring a new church started by Berean Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. He was the former associate pastor at Berean Baptist Church. Butch and Unda (Shorey 74) Stone have moved to Tilton, New Hampshire, where they will help Linda's parents with family conferences and youth camps at the Zion Hill Bible Conference in Tilton. Tom (75N) and Dana (Diiion 74N) Day reside in Mansfield, Ohio, where Dana teaches Prepared Childbirth classes. Their most recent son Elijah, who was born at home, joins brothers Jeremiah and Israel. Esther (Lightcap 75) Meek is currently living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she is a Ph.D. candidate at Temple University. Ed (76) and Jeanie Baggett are living in Aurora, Illinois. Ed is the Purchasing Agent of Molex, Inc. of Lisle, Illinois. Susan Harri• ( 76) spent the summer of 1979 as an assistant leader with Teen Missions, Merritt Island, Florida. One project was a trip to Paris, France, with 30 teenagers, where they helped build a dorm for the French Evangelical Seminary. Kurt Moreland ( 76) recently received his Ph.D. in Speech Communications from Purdue University. Ruth Teed (76) returned to the States this past spring from Roxas, Palawan, Philippines, where she spent the 1979-80 school year teaching missionary children. Ruth served as a short .term missionary with A.B.W.E. Rich (77) and Marlene McCracken now live in Curwensville, Pennsylvania, where Rich is employed by Benjamin Coal Company. Michael Cuffman (78) has been appointed to the faculty of Baptist Bible College, Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. He will be teaching speech and English in the General Studies Division. Mike received his M.A. from Bowling Green State University. Klmerly Gall (78) has been named women's basketball and tennis coach, and instructor in physical education at Geneve College, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Kimerly received her M.S. in Physical Education from the University of Dayton, (Ohio) in April, 1980. Carole Green ( 78) is teaching Title I Reading in Western School District, Pike County, Ohio. She has also begun study for an M.A. in Elementary Education at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. Carman Eugene JonH (78) received a Master of Divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky, June 6, 1980. David (78) and Renee (Globlg 79) Lyons have moved to Silver Springs, Maryland, where Dave will attend Capital Seminary to pursue a Th.M. Marty Shaw (78) has completed classroom work for his M.A. in Theology at Western Conservative Baptist Seminary. Presently he and his wife, Denise (Gawthrop 78). live in Tuolumne, California, where Marty is the Program Director for Silver Spur Christian Camp and Conference Center. Denise, who has been a psychometrist for Portland Public Schools for the last one and one-half years, will be helping with duties at the camp. Warren (79) and Debbie (Sanderlin 79) Throckmorton have moved to Alma, Michigan. Warren has a graduate assistantship at Central Michigan University in the area of Clinical Psychology. Debbie is teaching at the Fellowship Baptist Academy in Alma. Gary L. Welton (79) is the author of The Remainder, a book that expresses the need for the church to minister to the total person. The novel was published by Dorrance & Company. Gary is now a houseparent with United Cerebral Palsy in Venango County, Pennsylvania. Hitching Post On June 14, 1980, Diane K. Cockerlll (71) became the wife of John Ringer in Lansing, Michigan. 5 Nancy Haffey (71) became the wife of Larry Pryor of Indianapolis, Indiana, on May 31, 1980. She received her M.A. from Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, on August 15, 1980, and is presently teaching vocal and instrumental music in grades 1-12 at Bethesda Christian Schools, Brownsburg, Indiana. Kevin Sima (74) was joined in marriage to Cheryl Cole of Crystal, Minnesota, July 14, 1979. Kevin and Cheryl are making their home in Owatonna, Minnesota, where Kevin is chairman of the History Department at Pillsbury Baptist Bible College. Diane L. Jacob• (75) is now the wife of Dale W. Bryant, a student at Grace Theological Seminary. They were married May 31, 1980, in Louisville, Kentucky. Karen R. Sawyer (77) and John E. Herbster were united in marriage June 14, 1980, in South Bend, Indiana. Bryan Waggoner (77) and Sharon Levin (80) became one in Christ August 9, 1980, at Calvary Baptist Church, Thornton, Colorado. They are presently involved in a youth ministry in Waterloo, Iowa, at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church. Randall Campbell (78) was married to Karen Gass on June 14, 1980, at Northwest Baptist Seminary Chapel, Tacoma, Washington. Wllllam (Biii) Abernathy (79) and Peggy van der Hoeven (79) were united in marriage June 14, 1980, in Wilton, Connecticut. Bill and Peggy are planning to return to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Bill will begin his second year at Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary. Benson (Benny) Belleman (79) and Amy Jo Plaggermars were united in marriage at the Rosewood Reformed Church, Jenison, Michigan, on July 19, 1980. June 21, 1980, was the wedding day of Steven Bowlln (79) and Ann Fava (80). The couple was married in Oxon Hill, Maryland, at the Allentown Baptist Church. David Drozek (79) and Rebecca Stewart were married June 14, 1980, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at Gray Road Baptist Church. Dave is continuing his second year of
