Engineering Department Holds Canoe Race A total of 25 College engineering teams and four non-engineering teams showcased their skills in the Elmer W. Engstrom Department of Engineering' s annual water-worthiness competition Oct. 16. Four– person teams of students designed and built canoes entirely of posterboard-like paper and plastic tape. Each canoe was then launched from one end of Cedar Lake and paddled by two of it$ designers in a race to cross the lake in the shortest time. This year' s winning canoe was designed and built by student engineers Jonathan Campbell, Lance Ferguson, Jeffrey Fleck, and Travis Huffman. Their canoe successfully crossed the lake in two minutes, 29 seconds . Each member of the team received a Hewlett-Packard gi;aphing calculator. '~al\ts Larnelle Harris ue~t~ Homecoming Crowd Kiev Choir and Orchestra Performs The Kiev (Ukraine) Symphonic Choir and Orchestra delighted the College family with selections in Ukrainian folk music, sacred classical works, and American melodies on Sept. 25. The group, made up of professional musicians from Kiev's choirs and orchestras, was founded in 1992 by Roger and Diane McMurrin, who wanted to share the sacred classical music of the West with the people of Ukraine. Before initiating the Kiev group, Roger served as music director at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and taught at Xenia High School (Xenia, Ohio) and Otterbein College (Columbus, Ohio). 14 Torch A pproximately 1,500 Homecoming revelers met in the Jeremiah Chapel for a time of praise and worship with contemporary Christian singer Larnelle Harris on Oct. 16. Cedarville's Concert Chorale joined Larnelle in favorites such as I Can Be Glad, Worship Medley, and Amen.
