Engineering Students Earn Honors C edarville College engineering students enter competitions regularly, often facing larger engineering schools. A variety of competitions, including the Society of Automotive Engineers' (SAE) Aerodesign contest, the Mini-Baja, the Micro-Baja, the Supermileage competition, the American Society for Mechanical Engineers' (ASME) Solar Splash, the Institute for Electronics Engineers' (IEEE) Micro Mouse and Summit Challenge, and the U.S. Department of Energy's Ethanol Challenge, are meant to push students to their full potential. Students can also hone their skills by presenting chapter activities at national meetings of professional organizations, including SAE, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), and the Society for Technical Communication (STC). The past academic year brought notable achievements for the College engineering department. Their accomplishments include the following: 0 Cedarville student Deborah Pittman won the Old Guard oral competition for Region V of ASME. In November, she traveled to the ASME Congress in Anaheim, California for their international competition. 0 Senior electrical engineering majors Joe Whinnery and Jake Porter took top honors for their technical paper at the Region II IEEE Leadership Conference. 0 Seniors Dan Hicks and Rob Bouwens won first place in the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers' Senior Design Project Showcase. 0 Student engineer Luke Postema won a prestigious WISE summer internship in Washington, D.C., marking the sixth straight year that Cedarville has produced a WISE intern. 0 Cedarville was the only engineering school in Ohio to have a 100 percent passing rate for the National Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
