Torch, Spring 1981

ello! My name is Joann Bradshaw, and I am a senior from Danbury, Connecticut. As an incoming freshman, one of my primary goals was to use my gifts and abilities in service for God . My first venture in ful – filling this goal came when I volunteered to work in an orphanage in a town neighboring Cedarville. I was raised in a home with a foster sister, so I have a special interest in orphans. Sixty students and I traveled weekly to the orphanage. Children were being saved and I longed to spend more and more time with them. I gained permission to take some of the children out on Saturdays. So amidst my studies I attended ball games and concerts and played in the park with children from the orphanage. It was as exciting for me as it was for them . The summer following my freshman year, I had the privilege of traveling to Brazil under a program spon– sored by Cedarville College called Missionary In– ternship Service . I traveled with nine other students, and I saw first-hand the many people of Brazil who needed the gospel of Christ. I especially appreciated observing the lives of the missionaries and the way they incorporated witnessing into their total lifestyle. That challenged me to be a faithful witness while in Brazil, as well as at home after returning to the United States. Now, I am a member of a musical team-the Sword– bearers-which travels on weekends to local churches to give concerts, hold seminars , and to give and present gospel puppet shows. There have been times when I was placed in a particular home where God has allowed me to minister to my hosts and their families. In those situations, I often feel inadequate as a young student; but God always equipped me for those occasions . Now, I am looking forward to graduation with antici– pation. I've learned that everyone has a special place of service in the body of Christ. I will soon step away from Cedarville into a world that needs Christ. But, I'm con– fident, because for four years God has been preparing me for what lies ahead. G reetings from the campus of Cedarville College! My name is Fritz Huber and I am a preseminary Bible major. My home town is Greenville, Ohio . To think that I am a third-quarter senior is quite astonishing to me . My four years here have rushed by me so quickly . I wish I could spend another year on campus taking the courses that I could not fit into my schedule. Even though Cedarville College is a college of arts and sciences, Christian service has been a big part of my education. The administration , faculty , and staff continually strive to perfect that "balance" that is neces– sary in the areas of evangelism, discipleship , and aca– demics . One thing I have found as a senior is that a person does not learn aH there is to know in four years . A pro– fessor has said that" .. . you find out what you don't know while you are in college." That is so true. I have grown as a person and accomplished things that I would never have been able to accomplish outside of Cedar– ville College. One of the many things the college has helped me to develop is the ability to witness to people. Three years ago, I began to get involved with an evangelistic team involved in sharing the gospel of Christ to students of a nearby campus. Because of my training at Cedarville and at my local church, I was able to be engaged in se– rious , one-on-one interactions with secular university students concerning the Christ of the Scriptures. I found that these students were indeed interested in spiritual matters. I would like to encourage any Christian young person to consider Cedarville College as a place of preparation for your vocation . Your education at this institution, as well as your development spiritually, is priceless. The Cedarville College experience will enrich your life for the future challenges. 11
