Torch, Spring 1987: Centennial Issue
Betty Tarter One of the great strengths of Cedarville College is the support staff who serve in a multitude of capacities year in and year out. Betty Tarter is one of the many staff people who are committed to Cedarville. For almost 20 of her 26 years at the college she has directed the activities of the Housekeeping Department. Mrs. Tarter supervises a staff of full- and part-time housekeep– ers, many of whom are students. They work almost around the clock to keep the buildings of the campus looking their best. The housekeepers gain more than just employment opportu– nity from her - and more than just learning responsibility and taking pride in a job well-done, although both of these are very important when one works for Betty Tarter. Her employees find that she is interested in them personally - their needs, desires, aspirations, and in their walk with the Lord. She rejoices when they rejoice and weeps when they weep. One says that she is " ...an incredible woman. She has so many responsibilities. She has a ser– vant's heart, a great attitude, and a wonderful sense of humor. I love working for her." She makes an effort to keep track of her student helpers after they leave the college and looks forward to welcoming them back when they visit the campus. The college named her "Staff Member of the Year" in 1986. When one thinks of commit– ment, one thinks of Betty Tarter. 10 • 1967 1968 1972 1974 1975 1976 1978 Present library constructed at cost of $400,000. Maddox Hall constructed.
